Uso de implementos de higiene oral y nivel educativo de pacientes que acuden al centro dental docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia

Abstract

Introducción: La higiene oral es crucial para mantener la salud bucal y general de las personas, al igual que el correcto conocimiento sobre las prácticas de limpieza y los instrumentos a utilizar para realizarlas. No obstante, el nivel educativo de los individuos pudo haber influido en dichas prácticas, por lo tanto, no resultó beneficioso para los mismos. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre el uso de implementos de higiene oral y el nivel educativo de los pacientes que acudieron al Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el 2024. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio transversal, que tuvo como población la base de datos del proyecto de investigación “PERFIL DE LOS USUARIOS Y CARACTERÍSTICAS DE LA DEMANDA ATENDIDA EN UN CENTRO DENTAL DOCENTE PERUANO”. Las variables que se analizaron fueron el uso de pasta dental, flúor, cepillo propio, hilo dental, limpiador de lengua, cepillos interproximales, enjuague bucal y número de implementos de higiene. Además, se consideraron factores demográficos como la ocupación, el nivel educativo, el lugar y distrito de residencia, el sexo, la edad y la sede docente. Resultados: En cuanto al nivel educativo superior universitario o posgrado obtuvo un 49.33% (n = 329) siendo la más alta. Dentro del modelo 4, fueron significativas las siguientes variables: (coeficiente de regresión estandarizado=0.196, IC95%= 0.109 - 0.283, p<0.001), Sede CDD-UPCH (coeficiente de regresión estandarizado=0.212, IC95%= 0.130 - 0.294, p<0.001), departamento de residencia (coeficiente de regresión estandarizado =-0.507, IC95% = -0.929 - -0.084, p=0.019), distrito de residencia (coeficiente de regresión estandarizado =0.084, IC95% 0.016 - 0.151, p=0.015) y la edad (coeficiente de regresión estandarizado =-0.268, IC95% -0.373- -0.163, p<0.001) (Tabla 2). Conclusión: Existe asociación entre el número de implementos de higiene y el nivel educativo de los pacientes que acuden al Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el 2024.

Introduction: Oral hygiene care is crucial for mantaining both oral and general health, as is correct knowledge about cleaning practices and the instruments to be used for cleaning. However, an invidividual’s educational level may influence these practices, potentially leading to suboptimal outcomes. Objective: To determine the association between the use of oral hygiene implements and the educational level of patients attending the Teaching Dental Center of the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in 2024. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study, which had as its population the database of the research project ‘PROFILE OF THE USERS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DEMAND ATTENDED AT A PERUVIAN TEACHER'S DENTAL CENTRE’. The variables analysed were the use of toothpaste, fluoride, personal toothbrush, dental floss, tongue cleaner, interproximal brushes, mouthwash, and number of hygiene implements used. In addition, demographic factors such as occupation, educational level, place and district of residence, gender, age and teaching location were considered. Results: University or postgraduate level of education, 49.33% (n = 329) was the highest.
