Frecuencia de hallazgos incidentales en tomografía computarizada de haz cónico de pacientes atendidos en el Servicio de Radiología Oral y Maxilofacial del Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima- Perú 2024

Abstract

Los hallazgos incidentales son anomalías o condiciones detectadas durante un examen radiográfico o tomográfico que no estaban relacionadas con el motivo principal del estudio. Estos hallazgos pueden incluir calcificaciones en arterias carótidas, disfunciones de la articulación temporomandibular, y otras patologías. La identificación de estos hallazgos es crucial, y puede requerir derivación médica en la mayoría de casos. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la frecuencia de hallazgos incidentales en tomografía computarizada de haz cónico en pacientes atendidos en el Servicio de Radiología Oral y Maxilofacial del Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia durante el año 2024. La investigación será de tipo descriptiva, transversal, retrospectiva y observacional, evaluando tomografías de pacientes de ambos sexos, con edades entre 10 y 60 años. Se analizarán las imágenes para determinar la frecuencia de hallazgos según sexo, edad, la zona anatómica evaluada y el tipo de hallazgo incidental. El análisis de datos se realizará mediante el programa SPSS versión 25, con el fin de establecer la frecuencia de estos hallazgos por sexo, edad, zona anatómica de evaluación y tipo de hallazgo incidental. Los resultados permitirán un mejor manejo clínico y diagnóstico en la práctica radiológica.

Incidental findings are abnormalities or conditions detected during a radiographic or tomographic examination that were not related to the primary purpose of the study. These findings may include calcifications in the carotid arteries, temporomandibular joint dysfunctions, and other pathologies. Identification of these findings is crucial and may require medical referral in most cases. The objective of this study is to determine the frequency of incidental findings in cone beam computed tomography in patients treated in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Service of the Dental Teaching Center of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia during the year 2024. The research will be descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective and observational, evaluating tomography scans of patients of both sexes, aged between 10 and 60 years. The images will be analyzed to determine the frequency of findings according to sex, age, the anatomical area evaluated and the type of incidental finding. Data analysis will be carried out using the SPSS version 25 program, in order to establish the frequency of these findings by sex, age, anatomical area of evaluation and type of incidental finding. The results will allow better clinical management and diagnosis in radiological practice.
