Asociación entre el tipo de maloclusión, edentulismo y signos y síntomas relacionados a trastornos temporomandibulares en pacientes atendidos en el servicio de Rehabilitación Oral de la Clínica Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia durante el período 2017-2019

Abstract

Los trastornos temporomandibulares son alteraciones frecuentes en la práctica odontológica que pueden afectar la función del sistema estomatognático. Diversos factores, como las maloclusiones y el edentulismo, han sido relacionados con su aparición debido a las alteraciones que generan en el sistema masticatorio. Esto podría favorecer la presencia de signos y síntomas asociados a los trastornos temporomandibulares. Determinar la asociación entre el tipo de maloclusión, edentulismo y signos y síntomas relacionados a trastornos temporomandibulares en pacientes atendidos en el servicio de Rehabilitación Oral de la Clínica Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el periodo 2017-2019. El estudio será descriptivo, retrospectivo y observacional. La selección de muestra será no probabilística por conveniencia y estará constituida por historias clínicas de pacientes entre los 18 a 70 años que asistieron a la clínica Dental Docente de la UPCH en el periodo 2017-2019. Se utilizó el programa EPIDAT 4.2, con las siguientes consideraciones: población infinita (al desconocerse su tamaño),probabilidad del evento (50%), nivel de confianza (95%) y margen de error (0.05),al reemplazar los datos, el resultado fue de 382 historias clínicas. Este estudio resaltará la importancia de evaluar el tipo de maloclusión y el edentulismo por su posible asociación con los trastornos temporomandibulares.

Temporomandibular disorders are common conditions in dental practice that affect the function of the stomatognathic system. Various factors, such as malocclusion and edentulism, have been linked to their development due to alterations they cause in the masticatory system. This could contribute to the presence of signs and symptoms associated with temporomandibular disorders. To determine the association between maloclussion type, edentulism and signs and symptoms related to temporomandibular disorders in patients treated in the Oral Rehabilitation service of the Teaching Dental Clinic of The Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia during the 2017-2019 period. This study will be descriptive, retrospective and observational. The sample selection will be non-probabilistic and based on convenience sampling, and will consist of dental records of patients between 18 and 70 years of age who attended the Teaching Dental Clinic of the UPCH between 2017 and 2019. The EPIDAT 4.2 program was used, with the following considerations: population (Infinite since it was unknown), Expected prevalence (50%), confidence level (95%) and 5% margin of error. After replacing the data, the result was 382 medical records. This study highlights the importance of considering the type of malocclusion and the presence of edentulism during the clinical evaluation of patients, due to their possible relationship with the presence of signs and symptoms associated with temporomandibular disorders.
