| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | This critical literature review aimed to analyze the available evidence on the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in adolescents over the past ten years. To this end, 13 scientific articles were reviewed, retrieved from the Scopus, SciELO, ProQuest, and EBSCOhost databases. The studies were selected using selection criteria, considering empirical research published between 2016 and 2026 in Spanish and English. The selected sources were subsequently critically analyzed to identify the main findings, methodological characteristics, and reported limitations. The results showed that, of the 13 studies included, 9 reported a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance, whereas 4 did not identify such a relationship. Among the studies with significant results, the relationship was predominantly of small magnitude and was observed more consistently in specific dimensions of emotional intelligence, such as clarity, understanding, emotional regulation, and stress management. Likewise, cross-sectional correlational studies predominated, along with the use of the TMMS-24 to assess emotional intelligence and Pearson's correlation as the main statistical procedure. The main limitations identified included the predominance of cross-sectional designs, the use of self-report, variability in the measurement of academic performance, and sample-related restrictions. It is concluded that the reviewed evidence shows a tendency toward identifying a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in adolescents; however, this relationship was mainly of small magnitude. These findings should be interpreted in light of the methodological characteristics and limitations of the included studies. | eng |
