Caracterización de caninos y felinos hospitalizados en un centro veterinario del distrito de Miraflores - Lima durante el periodo 2023

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue describir las características de los pacientes caninos y felinos hospitalizados en un centro veterinario del distrito de Miraflores, Lima, durante el periodo 2023. Se incluyó historias clínicas completas de pacientes hospitalizados durante un periodo de al menos un día y se excluyeron pacientes que no cuenten con un registro completo. Se recolectó en total 247 historias clínicas, de las cuales 155 (62.8%) fueron de pacientes caninos, mientras que 92 (37.2%) fueron de felinos. Estas se clasificaron según edad, sexo, raza, procedencia, estado reproductivo, sistema afectado y motivo de internamiento. En caninos fueron (43,9%) machos y (56,1%) hembras, en cuanto al estado reproductivo se registraron (71,6%) perros enteros y (28,4%) perros castrados; en esta especie la raza mestiza fue predominante (43,2%). El grupo etario más representativo fueron los cachorros (40,0%). Mientras que en felinos fueron registrados (64,1%) machos y (35,9%) hembras, y en cuanto al estado reproductivo se registraron (33,7%) gatos enteros y (66,3%) gatos castrados; en esta especie la raza predominante también fue la mestiza, con un (81,5%), y el grupo etario más representativo fueron los adultos jóvenes (51,1%). En conclusión, en el estudio existió una mayor representación de caninos que de felinos. La mayoría de los pacientes hospitalizados proceden del distrito de Miraflores. En ambas especies predominó la raza mestiza, siendo esta más representativa en felinos. En pacientes caninos el sistema más comúnmente afectado fue el digestivo (37,4%) y la causa de internamiento más frecuente corresponde a los procedimientos quirúrgicos (32,9%). En pacientes felinos el sistema más comúnmente afectado fue el urinario (29,3%) y la causa de internamiento más frecuente corresponde a las enfermedades de tipo urinario (25%).

The main objective of the study was to describe the characteristics of canine and feline patients hospitalized in a veterinary center in the district of Miraflores, Lima during the period 2023. Complete medical records of patients hospitalized for a period of at least one day were included and patients that do not have a complete medical record were excluded. A total of 247 medical records were collected, of which 155 (62.8%) were from canine patients, while 92 (37.2%) were from feline patients. These were classified according to age, sex, race, district of origin, reproductive status, affected system and reason for hospitalization. In canines they were (43.9%) males and (56.1%) females, in terms of reproductive status, (71.6%) entire dogs and (28.4%) neutered dogs were recorded, in this species the mixed breed was predominant (43.2%). The most representative age group was puppies (40.0%). While in felines, (64.1%) males and (35.9%) females were recorded and in terms of reproductive status, (33.7%) entire cats and (66.3%) neutered cats were recorded, in this species, the predominant race was also the mixed breed with (81.5%), the most representative age group was young adults (51.1%). In conclusion, in the study there was a greater number of canines than felines. The majority of hospitalized patients come from the Miraflores district. In both species, the mixed breed predominated, this being more representative in felines. In canine patients the most commonly affected system was the digestive system (37.4%) and the most frequent cause of hospitalization was surgical procedures (32.9%). In feline patients the most commonly affected system was the urinary system (29.3%) and the most frequent cause of hospitalization correspond to urinary diseases (25%).
