Prevalencia de erupción pasiva alterada en cadetes sin tratamiento ortodóntico y en cadetes post tratamiento ortodóntico en la Escuela Militar de Chorrillos “Coronel Francisco Bolognesi”, 2022-2023

Abstract

Antecedentes: La erupción pasiva alterada (EPA) afecta a la estética dental e impacta sobre la confianza y seguridad de la persona. Su presencia podría predisponer al desarrollo de la enfermedad periodontal dificultando la higiene oral y cuando existe la necesidad de realizar una restauración, también la dificulta. Existen hallazgos bibliográficos que mencionan de diferencias en su prevalencia posterior a un tratamiento ortodóntico. Objetivo: determinar la prevalencia de erupción pasiva alterada (EPA) en cadetes sin tratamiento ortodóntico y en cadetes post tratamiento ortodóntico en la Escuela Militar de Chorrillos "Crl. Francisco Bolognesi", 2022 - 2023. Materiales y métodos: es un estudio descriptivo y transversal, con una muestra dividida en dos grupos, 100 cadetes sin tratamiento ortodóntico y 100 cadetes postratamiento ortodóntico. Los datos se analizaron en el paquete estadístico SPSS 25 y las pruebas estadísticas fueron Chi-cuadrado, test de Mantel-Haenszel y U de Mann Whitney, nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: La prevalencia global de EPA en los cadetes alcanzó el 12.5%, sin diferencia significancia entre los cadetes post tratamiento y cadetes sin tratamiento ortodóntico (p=0.285). Entre las características se resalta que principalmente fueron de sexo masculino, menores de 22 años, biotipo gingival grueso y forma clínica de la corona triangular. Se observó que el tratamiento ortodóntico pareciera no tuvo asociación con la prevalencia de EPA, analizada en función del sexo, edad, biotipo gingival o forma clínica de la corona de los cadetes. Conclusión: Se evidenció una mayor prevalencia de EPA en los cadetes que no tuvieron ortodoncia, pareciera que el antecedente de tratamiento ortodóntico no tendría relación con la prevalencia de EPA.

The altered passive eruption affects dental aesthetics and impacts on the confidence and security of the person. Its presence could predispose to the development of periodontal disease, making oral hygiene difficult and, when there is a need for a restoration, it could also make it more difficult. There are bibliographic findings that mention differences in its prevalence after orthodontic treatment. Objective: to determine the prevalence of altered passive eruption in cadets without orthodontic treatment and cadets after orthodontic treatment at the Chorrillos Military School "Crl. Francisco Bolognesi", 2022 - 2023. Methodological design: this is a descriptive and cross-sectional study, with a sample divided into two groups, 100 cadets without orthodontic treatment and 100 cadets after orthodontic treatment. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25 statistical package and the statistical tests were Chi-square, Mantel-Haenszel test, and Mann Whitney U test, significance level of 5%. Results: The overall prevalence of altered passive eruption in cadets reached 12.5%, with no significant difference between cadets post orthodontic treatment and cadets without orthodontic treatment (p=0.285). Among the characteristics, it is highlighted that they were mainly male, under 22 years of age, thick gingival biotype and clinical shape of the triangular crown. Orthodontic treatment had not association with the prevalence of EPA, analyzed according to sex, age, gingival biotype or clinical form of the cadet crown. Conclusion: There was a higher prevalence of EPA in cadets who did not have orthodontics, it seems that the antecedent of orthodontic treatment would not be related to the prevalence of EPA.
