Percepción del ambiente educacional de los estudiantes de Estomatología de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima - Perú, 2023

Abstract

Antecedentes: El entorno educativo que rodea al estudiante universitario es importante para lograr los resultados esperados.Objetivo: Determinar la percepción del ambiente educacional en estudiantes de la carrera de Estomatología de la UPCH, año 2023. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, observacional y transversal. 85 estudiantes de tercero a quinto año de carrera fueron evaluados con la encuesta “Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure”. Este instrumento tuvo un Alpha de Cronbach 0.93. Resultados: La percepción del ambiente educacional fue aceptable. No hubo diferencia significativa respecto al sexo, departamento académico (DA) y año de estudio (p>0.05). La media global indicó un ambiente “más positivo que negativo” (121.1±39.7). La dimensión aprendizaje mostró “una percepción más positiva” (31.3±11.0), de los profesores “moviéndose en la dirección correcta” (25.8±8.3), lo social como “no es un lugar agradable” (12.4±4.6). En la atmósfera indicó que “hay algunos problemas que se necesita cambiar” (22.2±8.4) y en lo académico es “seguro” (29.2±9.7).No hubo diferencia significativa para cada dimensión respecto a DA, año académico y sexo (p>0.05). Conclusión: Más del 50% de estudiantes consideró el ambiente educacional como “aceptable”. Más del 70% consideró el aprendizaje “percibido como positivo” y la autopercepción académica “segura”. En profesores, solo tres ítems mostraron diferencia significativa entre DA respecto a que “ridiculizan a los estudiantes”, “son autoritarios” y “se irritan con el comportamiento de los estudiantes”. Del entorno social, entre el 40% y 55% opina que “no es un lugar agradable”. Alrededor del 50% percibe “hay algunos problemas que se necesitan cambiar” referente a la atmósfera.

Background: The educational environment that surrounds the university student is important to achieve the expected results. Objective: Determine the perception of the educational environment in students of the Stomatology career at UPCH, year 2023. Materials and methods: Descriptive, observational study and transversal. 85 students from third to fifth year of study were evaluated with the “Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure” survey. This instrument had a Cronbach's Alpha 0.93. Results: The perception of the educational environment was acceptable. There was no significant difference regarding sex, academic department (AD) and year of study (p>0.05). The overall mean indicated an environment “more positive than negative” (121.1±39.7). The learning dimension showed “a more positive perception” (31.3±11.0), of teachers “moving in the right direction” (25.8±8.3), in social terms such as “it is not a nice place” (12.4±4.6). In the atmosphere he indicated that “there are some problems that need to be changed” (22.2±8.4) and in academics it is “safe” (29.2±9.7). There was no significant difference for each dimension regarding DA, academic year and sex (p >0.05). Conclusion: More than 50% of students considered the educational environment as “acceptable”. More than 70% considered learning “perceived as positive” and academic self-perception “safe.” In teachers, only three items showed a significant difference between DA regarding “they ridicule students”, “they are authoritarian” and “they get irritated with students' behavior”. Regarding the social environment, between 40% and 55% think that “it is not a pleasant place.” Around 50% perceive “there are some problems that need to be changed” regarding the atmosphere.
