Frecuencia de tratamientos estomatológicos en pacientes del Servicio de Odontopediatría atendidos bajo anestesia general en el Centro Dental Docente Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia 2016 - 2019

Abstract

Antecedentes: El tratamiento estomatológico en niños bajo anestesia general (AG), es una técnica de manejo farmacológico avanzado, empleado en pacientes que no pueden ser tratados con técnicas de orientación conductual; permitiendo un tratamiento integral de calidad en una cita, siguiendo los protocolos establecidos. Los estudios sobre la demanda de tratamientos estomatológicos en niños bajo AG son limitados en Perú, por ello es fundamental conocer las características de los tratamientos estomatológicos que se realizan bajo este método. Objetivo: Determinar la frecuencia de tratamientos estomatológicos en pacientes del servicio de Odontopediatría atendidos bajo AG en el Centro Dental Docente Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia 2016 - 2019. Materiales y Métodos: Este estudio fue transversal, descriptivo y observacional. Las variables fueron tratamientos estomatológicos, edad, sexo, año de tratamiento, lugar de procedencia, cantidad de tratamientos y cantidad de dientes tratados. Se realizó el análisis utilizando la prueba de Kruskal Wallis y prueba de U de Mann Whitney para variables cuantitativas. Resultados: Se hallaron 54 pacientes atendidos bajo AG, siendo 36 varones y 18 mujeres; los tratamientos más realizados fueron resinas (27%) y coronas de acero preformadas (18%) Conclusiones: La necesidad de tratamientos complejos, así como la falta de cooperación ya sea por la edad, requieren una atención bajo AG. Se encontró una mayor cantidad de pacientes en el grupo de edad de 7 a 12 años que requirieron tratamiento bajo AG; sin embargo, se realizaron una mayor cantidad de tratamientos en el rango de 3 a 6 años de edad.

Background: Stomatological treatment in children under general anesthesia (GA) is an advanced pharmacological management technique, used in patients who cannot be treated with behavioral guidance techniques; allowing comprehensive quality treatment in one appointment, following established protocols. Studies on the demand for dental treatments in children under GA are limited in Peru, therefore it is essential to know the characteristics of the dental treatments that are performed under this method. Objective: To determine the frequency of stomatological treatments in patients of the Pediatric Dentistry service treated under AG at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia Teaching Dental Center 2016 - 2019. Materials and Methods: This study was cross-sectional, descriptive and observational. The variables were dental treatments, age, sex, year of treatment, place of origin, number of treatments and number of teeth treated. Analysis was performed using the Kruskal Wallis test and the Mann Whitney U test for quantitative variables. Results: 54 patients treated under GA were found, being 36 men and 18 women; the most performed treatments were resins (27%) and preformed steel crowns (18%). Conclusions: The need for complex treatments, as well as the lack of cooperation, whether due to age, require attention under AG. A greater number of patients in the age group of 7 to 12 years who required treatment under AG were found; however, a greater number of treatments were carried out in the range of 3 to 6 years of age.
