Conocimiento del poblador de Lima acerca de las competencias profesionales del médico veterinario. Lima – Perú

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el conocimiento de la población de Lima acerca de las funciones profesionales del Médico Veterinario (MV). Para ello se desarrolló un estudio a base de encuestas virtuales destinada a pobladores de Lima Metropolitana y Callao, en la que se mostraban funciones reconocidas a los MV y que los encuestados deberían opinar si le correspondía exclusivamente al MV, la comparten con otras profesiones o si se les atribuía a otras profesiones exclusivamente. Se recogieron 671 encuestas las que fueron resumidas mediante tablas de frecuencia. Las principales funciones atribuidas exclusivamente al MV fueron: curar o prevenir enfermedades en los animales utilizados como mascotas (87.6%), promover la tenencia responsable de animales de compañía (76.8%), control de perros u otros animales vagabundos (67.5%), investigar la forma de transmisión de las enfermedades animales (62.4%). Las principales funciones atribuidas al MV y otros profesionales fueron: rescate de animales en situaciones de desastres (60.7%), educar a la población en la prevención del tráfico de animales silvestres y su uso como mascotas o adornos (55.9%), participar en la investigación científica y fabricación de productos biológicos para la industria animal (53.9%), capacitar a la población en prevención de enfermedades animales en situaciones de desastres (52.8%), encargarse de la producción y reproducción animal para consumo humano (51.0%) y controlar sanitariamente del comercio de productos y subproductos de origen animal desde el Perú a otros países y viceversa (50.2). La principal función no atribuida al MV fue la participación en acciones relacionadas con el cambio climático o calentamiento global (53.1%). Es importante difundir las funciones del MV a fin de que autoridades y sociedad la reconozcan con la finalidad de no ver restringida el área de desarrollo laboral.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge of the Lima population about the professional functions of the Veterinarian (MV). To do this, a study was developed based on virtual quizes to the residents of Metropolitan Lima and Callao, in which recognized functions of MVs were shown and that respondents must give their opinion if they correspond exclusively to MV, share it with other professions or if they were attributed to other professions exclusively. 671 quizes were collected which were summarized using frequency tables. The main functions attributed exclusively to MV were: curing or preventing diseases in animals used as pets (87.6%), promoting responsible ownership of companion animals (76.8%), controlling dogs or other stray animals (67.5%), investigating the form of transmission of animal diseases (62.4%). The main functions attributed to MV and other professionals were: animal rescue in disaster situations (60.7%), educating the population in the prevention of wildlife trafficking and their use as pets or ornaments (55.9%), participating in the scientific research and manufacture of biological products for the animal industry (53.9%), train the population in the prevention of animal diseases in disaster situations (52.8%), take charge of animal production and reproduction for human consumption (51.0%) and control health of the trade of products and by-products of animal origin from Peru to other countries and vice versa (50.2). The main function not attributed to MV was participation in actions related to climate change or global warming (53.1%). It is important to disseminate the functions of the MV so that the authorities and society recognize in order not to see the area of labor development restricted.
