Moderación de la autocompasión en la relación del soporte social y el crecimiento postraumático en adolescentes durante el periodo de pandemia COVID 19

Abstract

La presente investigación exploró la relación de la percepción del soporte social y el crecimiento postraumático que experimentaron un grupo de adolescentes, así como el rol que la autocompasión tuvo en esta relación. Se validaron dos modelos: Uno de moderación, para evaluar si la autocompasión modifica la significancia estadística y la intensidad de la relación entre el soporte social y el crecimiento postraumático, y alternativamente otro de mediación, para evaluar si la autocompasión significa un camino alternativo para comprender el efecto que el soporte social tiene en el crecimiento postraumático. Específicamente se midieron los niveles de las variables, y se relacionaron y validaron ambos modelos. Se implementó un diseño descriptivo correlacional de tipo multivariable en 546 adolescentes (287 de género masculino y 259 de género femenino; 207 en adolescencia temprana y 339 en adolescencia media) usando tres escalas: Inventario de Crecimiento Postraumático (PTGI), escala de Autocompasión de Neff y Escala Multidimensional de Apoyo Percibido (MSPSS) En los resultados se registraron asociaciones significativas entre las variables del estudio: crecimiento postraumático y autocompasión (RhO= 0.517 p=< .001, soporte social y crecimiento postraumático (RhO= 0.599 p=< .001) y soporte social y autocompasión (RhO= 0.375 p=< .001) Con respecto al modelo de moderación no se obtuvo evidencia estadística significativa (β= 0.0027 t=1.078 p > 0,05), pero sí se obtuvo evidencia de la mediación parcial de la autocompasión en la relación del soporte social y el crecimiento postraumático (B = .15, SE = 0.02, CI [.11, .20]). Se concluye que se obtuvo evidencia que permite discutir acciones prácticas para promover el crecimiento postraumático a través de la cualidad compasiva del soporte social en adolescentes.

The present research explored the relation between social support and posttraumatic growth experimented during COVID 19 pandemic, as well to measure the rol that self-compassion had in that relation. Two models were explored: A moderation model to evaluate if self-compassion modifies the statistical significance and the intensity of the relation between social support and post-traumatic growth; alternatively, a mediation model was run to evaluate if self-compassion was a significant alternative regression path to understand the effect of social support in the posttraumatic growth. This research explored the posttraumatic growth in teenagers during COVID 19 pandemic by validating a model that explores the relation between social support and posttraumatic growth moderated by self- compassion. This research aimed to search a potential factor that moderates the effect that social support has in posttraumatic growth, alternatively a mediation model was explored with the same variables to show how self-compassion activates this main effect and constitutes an alternative path of social support in posttraumatic growth. Variables were measured, related and the two models were validated. A multivariable correlational descriptive design was run in 456 teenagers (287 males and 259 females; 207 in early adolescence and 339 in middle adolescence) using three scales: The post traumatic growth inventory (PTGI) The Neff Self Compassion scale and the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (MSPSS). Significative associations between the study variables were obtained: Post-traumatic growth and self-compassion (RhO= 0.517 p=< .001) Social Support and posttraumatic growth (RhO= 0.599 p=< .001) Social support and self-compassion (RhO= 0.375 p=< .001). The moderation explore didn’t show significant statistical evidence (β= 0.0027 t=1.078 p > 0,05), the mediation explore did show significant evidence of Self Compassion partial mediation of the social support effect in posttraumatic growth (B = .15, SE = 0.02, CI [.11, .20]). As a conclusion evidence was obtained that allows practical discussion about posttraumatic growth promotion trough the compassionate quality of social support in adolescents.
