Conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los padres respecto a la salud bucal de sus hijos en el Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, en tiempos de pandemia COVID-19

Abstract

Antecedentes: La salud bucal forma parte de la salud integral de un niño, y la participación de los padres es fundamental para su cuidado. Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los padres respecto a la salud bucal de sus hijos en el Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, en tiempos de pandemia de Covid-19. Métodos y materiales: Estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal y prospectivo, la muestra de estudio estuvo constituida por 114 padres de niños menores de 14 años, en la que se aplicó un cuestionario que identificó los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de los padres respecto a la salud bucal de sus hijos durante el mes de abril del 2022. Resultados: El nivel de conocimientos, tipo de actitudes y nivel de prácticas predominante fue regular (59,65%), adecuado (98,25%) y regular (71,05%) respectivamente. Los padres tuvieron un mayor desconocimiento de cuándo iniciar con el cepillado de dientes de un niño con pasta dental con flúor (64.91%) y de la edad en la que un niño presenta dentición primaria completa (64.04%). Conclusiones: La mayoría de los padres a pesar de tener actitudes adecuadas presentaron un nivel regular de conocimientos y de prácticas respecto a la salud bucal de sus hijos en tiempos de pandemia de Covid-19 en un hospital de referencia en Lima, Perú.

Background: Oral health is part of a child's overall health and parental involvement in caring for it is essential. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents regarding their children’s oral health at Edgardo Rebagliati Martins Hospital, in times of Covid-19 pandemic. Methods and materials: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study, the study sample consisted of 114 parents of children under 14 years of age, a questionnaire was applied that identified the knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents regarding the oral health of their children during the month of April 2022. Results: The most predominant level of knowledge, type of attitudes and level of practices was regular (59.65%), adequate (98.25%) and regular (71.05%) respectively. Most parents didn't know about when to start brushing a child's teeth with fluoride toothpaste (64.91%) and the age of a child with complete primary dentition (64.04%). Conclusion: Most of the parents, despite having had adequate attitudes, presented a regular level of knowledge and practices regarding the oral health of their children in times of Covid-19 pandemic in a reference hospital in Lima, Peru.
