Prevalencia de lesiones en la mucosa oral en niños de 0 a 12 años en el Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el periodo 2019 – 2023

Abstract

Introducción: Las lesiones en la mucosa oral son un amplio grupo de afecciones o alteraciones en la cavidad bucal. Según la literatura, la prevalencia de las lesiones en la mucosa oral en niños oscila entre el 4% al 69,5%. Sin embargo, en el Perú, faltan datos epidemiológicos suficientes y conocimientos adecuados sobre la prevalencia de la mucosa oral en niños relacionados al sexo y la edad de los menores. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia y tipo de lesiones en la mucosa oral en niños de 0 a 12 años en el Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia en el periodo 2019 – 2023. Materiales y métodos: Se realizará un estudio de tipo retrospectivo y observacional entre Agosto y Diciembre del 2024; en donde, la población estará confinada a 7265 historias clínicas digitales de los pacientes de 0 a 12 años atendidos en el servicio de Odontopediatría del Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia desde Enero del 2019 hasta Diciembre del 2023. Los datos recopilados incluirán edad, sexo y tipo de lesión en la mucosa oral. Además, estos datos serán analizados estadísticamente utilizando el programa STATA versión 18.0. Asimismo, se aplicará la prueba Chi-cuadrado para determinar asociación entre las variables, teniendo un nivel de confianza del 95% y p < 0.05 de significancia. Conclusiones: Los conocimientos generados a partir de este estudio, contribuirán al entendimiento de la epidemiología, particularidades de cada lesión. De igual manera, nos servirá de base para optimizar los protocolos de diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento de estos pacientes en el ámbito clínico y académico.

Introduction: Lesions in the oral mucosa are a broad group of conditions or alterations in the oral cavity. According to the literature, the prevalence of lesions in the oral mucosa in children ranges from 4% to 69.5%. However, in Peru, there is a lack of sufficient epidemiological data and adequate knowledge about the prevalence of the oral mucosa in children related to the sex and age of the minors. Objetive: Determine the prevalence and type of lesions in the oral mucosa in children from 0 to 12 years of age at the Teaching Dental Center of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in the period 2019 - 2023. Materials and methods: A retrospective and observational study will be carried out, where the population will be confined to 7,265 digital medical records of patients from 0 to 12 years of age treated in the Pediatric Dentistry service of the Teaching Dental Center of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia since January 2019 until December 2023. The data collected will include age, sex and type of lesion on the oral mucosa. In addition, these data will be statistically analyzed using the STATA version 18.0 program. Likewise, the Chi-square test will be applied to determine the association between the variables, having a confidence level of 95% and p < 0.05 of significance. Finally, the sample will be examined between August and December 2024. Conclusions: The knowledge generated from this study will contribute to the understanding of the epidemiology and particularities of each injury. The same way, it will serve as a basis for optimizing the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up protocols for these patients in the clinical and academic field.
