Frecuencia de uso de prótesis convencional y prótesis sobre implantes de pacientes que acuden al Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima-Perú, 2016 – 2019

Abstract

Antecedentes: Existe una variedad de tratamientos protésicos que se clasifican en dos grupos: rehabilitación convencional y rehabilitación sobre implantes, dependiendo del escenario clínico y expectativas del paciente su elección protésica puede variar. Objetivo: Determinar la frecuencia de tipos de tratamientos de prótesis convencional y prótesis sobre implantes de pacientes que acudieron al Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima-Perú, en los años 2016 - 2019. Materiales y métodos: El estudio fue transversal, descriptivo, observacional y retrospectivo. Se empleó la base de datos del sistema del Centro Dental Docente, del cual se obtuvieron 56356 historias clínicas digitalizadas, el tamaño de muestra fue de 382 historias clínicas digitalizadas. Las variables empleadas fueron: tipo de tratamiento protésico (convencional o sobre implantes), sexo, edad, grado de instrucción y lugar de residencia. Se realizó un análisis bivariado empleando el programa STATA 16.0. Resultados: El 60,21% de los tratamientos protésicos fueron convencionales; siendo la prótesis parcial removible la de mayor frecuencia (53,47%) y la sobredentadura la de menor frecuencia (5,21%). El 39,79% de los tratamientos protésicos fueron sobre implantes, siendo la prótesis sobre implante unitaria la de mayor frecuencia (40,13%) y la prótesis sobre implantes múltiple la de menor frecuencia (10,53%). Conclusiones: La frecuencia de las prótesis convencionales fue mayor que en las prótesis sobre implantes. La prótesis parcial removible y la prótesis sobre implante unitaria fueron los tratamientos más solicitados en sus respectivos grupos.

Background: There is a variety of prosthetic treatments that are classified into two groups: conventional rehabilitation and implant-based rehabilitation. Their prosthetic choice may vary depending on the clinical scenario and the patient's expectations, Objective: To determine the frequency of types of conventional prostheses and prosthetic treatments on implants of patients who attended the Dental Teaching Center of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia, Lima-Peru, in the years 2016 – 2019. Materials and methods: The study was cross-sectional - sectional, descriptive, observational, and retrospective. The Dental Teaching Center system database was used to obtain 56,356 digitized medical records. The sample size was 382 digitized medical records. The variables used were: type of prosthetic treatment (conventional or on implants), sex, age, educational level, and place of residence. A bivariate analysis was performed using the STATA 16.0 program. Results: 60.21% of the prosthetic treatments were conventional; the removable partial denture was the most frequent (53.47%) and the overdenture was the least frequent (5.21%). 39.79% of the prosthetic treatments were on implants, with prostheses on a single implant being the most frequent (40.13%) and prostheses on multiple implants the least frequent (10.53%). Conclusions: The frequency of conventional prostheses was higher than that of implant-supported prostheses. The removable partial denture and the unitary prosthesis on implants were the most requested treatments in their respective groups.
