Resumen
This study investigates the potential genetic basis of susceptibility to human brucellosis and its articular manifestations through the analysis of families with multiple affected members in Peru. Using HLA haplotype and sibling-pair analyses in eight families comprising 62 individuals, the authors evaluated whether specific genetic markers within the HLA system were associated with the occurrence of brucellosis or brucellar arthritis. The results showed no evidence of linkage between HLA haplotypes and susceptibility to the disease or its articular involvement, suggesting that the genetic factors influencing brucellosis may lie outside the HLA system. The study contributes to the understanding of host factors involved in the clinical expression of brucellosis and highlights the need for further research into the genetic determinants of disease susceptibility.
