Campañas de esterilización y registro de animales de compañía reportados por las municipalidades distritales de los departamentos endémicos a rabia urbana en Perú durante el periodo 2018 al 2021

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la proporción de municipalidades distritales y provinciales de los departamentos de Arequipa y Puno, que realizaron campañas de registro e identificación de canes y esterilización de canes y felinos domésticos, durante el periodo 2018 – 2021. El estudio observacional, descriptivo y retrospectivo utilizó como fuente de información la encuesta anual del Registro Nacional de Municipalidades (RENAMU) desarrollado por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI). La población objetivo fueron los informes anuales ofrecida por las municipalidades provinciales y distritales de los departamentos de Arequipa (n=109) y Puno (n=110). Las variables de estudio fueron la proporción de municipalidades que desarrollaron campañas de registro e identificación de canes y campañas de esterilización de animales de compañía en el periodo 2018 - 2021. No hubo uniformidad en el número de municipalidades que registraron la información solicitada por el RENAMU en cada año. Entre 13.8 y 33% de municipalidades reporto haber realizado registro e identificación de canes durante el periodo de estudio en Arequipa (Rhos = -0.632) y entre 20 al 29.6%, en Puno (Rhos = -0.8). La tendencia fue negativa en el tiempo y la menor proporción se encontró el año 2021 en ambos departamentos. La proporción de municipalidades que reportaron haber realizado campañas de esterilización de canes y felinos domésticos fluctuó entre 7.3 y 20% en Arequipa (Rhos = -0.4) y entre 8.2 y 15.5% (Rhos = -0.2) en Puno. La tendencia fue negativa en el tiempo y la menor proporción se registró para el año 2021, en ambos departamentos. Se concluye que es necesario estimular las actividades municipales de registro e identificación de canes y control de la reproducción de los animales domésticos como parte de los programas de tenencia responsable de animales de compañía y el cumplimiento de las normas legales que regulan su tenencia.

The objective of the study was to determine the proportion of district and provincial municipalities of the departments of Arequipa and Puno, which carried out dog registration and identification campaigns and sterilization of dogs and domestic cats, during the period 2018 - 2021. Between 13.8 and 33% of municipalities reported having registered and identified dogs during the study period in Arequipa (Rhos = -0.632) and between 20 and 29.6% in Puno (Rhos = -0.8). The trend was negative over time and the lowest proportion was found in 2021 in both departments. The proportion of municipalities that reported having carried out sterilization campaigns for dogs and domestic cats fluctuated between 7.3 and 20% in Arequipa (Rhos = -0.4) and between 8.2 and 15.5% (Rhos = -0.2) in Puno. It is concluded that it is necessary to stimulate the municipal activities of registration and identification of dogs and control of the reproduction of domestic animals as part of the programs of responsible ownership of companion animals and compliance with the legal norms that regulate their ownership.
