Efectos de la pandemia en pacientes con un trastorno de conducta alimentaria

Abstract

La pandemia del COVID-19 ha afectado notablemente a la población, y ha obligado a la ciudadanía tomar medidas de autocuidado, siendo el más sobresaliente, el confinamiento en casa. Dentro de las poblaciones vulnerables que se han visto afectadas durante el aislamiento, se encuentran las personas que presentan algún Trastorno de Conducta Alimentaria debido a un alto riesgo físico y estrés psicológico a causa del confinamiento y la angustia ocasionada por la incertidumbre y la disminución del tratamiento habitual. El presente estudio ha buscado analizar el efecto de la pandemia en pacientes con un Trastorno de Conducta Alimentaria. Para ello, se revisaron diferentes investigaciones para identificar y describir los factores psicológicos, conductuales y los factores de riesgo y de protección en pacientes con un Trastorno de Conducta Alimentaria durante la pandemia. Se concluye que la pandemia de COVID-19 incrementó de forma significativa los síntomas de los TCA. Los factores psicológicos y conductuales se han visto afectados, empeorando los síntomas en muchos pacientes. El confinamiento, el aislamiento y la incertidumbre han intensificado conductas restrictivas, episodios de atracones, purgas, así como la ansiedad y el estrés.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the population, forcing citizens to take self-care measures, the most prominent being home confinement. Among the vulnerable populations affected during isolation are individuals with an Eating Disorder due to high physical risk and psychological stress caused by confinement and distress from uncertainty and reduced usual treatment. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the pandemic on patients with an Eating Disorder. To this end, various investigations were reviewed to identify and describe the psychological and behavioral factors, as well as the risk and protective factors in patients with an Eating Disorder during the pandemic. It concludes that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased Eating Disorder symptoms. Psychological and behavioral factors have been affected, worsening symptoms in many patients. Confinement, isolation, and uncertainty have intensified restrictive behaviors, binge eating episodes, purging, as well as anxiety and stress.
