Conocimiento y actitudes hacia la bioestadística en estudiantes de medicina que cursaron la asignatura de forma virtual de la UPCH

Abstract

Antecedentes: la bioestadística es una disciplina importante para el análisis y la interpretación de datos en la investigación médica y la toma de decisiones en la práctica clínica y la salud pública. Sin embargo, el nivel de conocimiento y actitudes de los estudiantes hacia esta disciplina puede no ser óptima e incluso, generar rechazo. Objetivo: medir el conocimiento y las actitudes hacia la bioestadística en estudiantes de medicina que cursaron la asignatura de forma virtual de la UPCH. Material y métodos: el estudio fue de tipo descriptivo transversal. La muestra se seleccionó mediante muestreo no probabilístico. La técnica fue la encuesta y los instrumentos utilizados fueron el cuestionario de Novack para la variable conocimiento y para valorar las actitudes el instrumento Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics-28, ambos confiables con KR20 de 0,638 y coeficiente de Alpha de Cronbach de 0,824, respectivamente. Resultados: nivel de conocimiento con promedio de 4,01± 2,28 y de actitud hacia la bioestadística de 4,22 ± 0,69. El factor cursos de bioestadística extracurriculares se asoció con la variable conocimiento con p=0,035, y con la variable actitudes con p=0,025. Se encontró asociación entre el factor edad y la variable actitudes con p=0,045. Conclusiones: Se concluyó que existe relación entre las variables conocimiento y actitud hacia la bioestadística en estudiantes de medicina que cursaron la asignatura de forma virtual de la UPCH, con rho de Spearman=0,207 y p=0,021.

Background: Biostatistics is an important discipline for the analysis and interpretation of data in medical research and decision making in clinical practice and public health. However, the level of knowledge and attitudes of students towards this discipline may not be optimal and may even generate rejection. Objective: measure knowledge and attitudes towards biostatistics in medical students who took the subject virtually at UPCH. Material and methods: the study was descriptive cross-sectional. The sample was selected using non-probabilistic sampling. The technique was the survey and the instruments used were the Novack questionnaire for the knowledge variable and the Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics-28 instrument to assess attitudes, reliable with KR20 of 0.638 and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.824, respectively. Results: level of knowledge with an average of 4.01 ± 2.28 and attitude towards biostatistics of 4.22 ± 0.69. The extracurricular biostatistics courses factor was associated with the knowledge variable with p=0.035, and with the attitudes varibale with p=0.025. An association 9was found between the age factor and the attitudes variable with p=0.045. Conclusions: It was concluded that there is a relationship between the variables knowledge and attitude towards biostatistics in medical students who took the subject virtually at UPCH, with Spearman's rho=0.207 and p=0.021.
