Dependencia funcional en pacientes geriátricos atendidos en consultorio externo de un hospital de las Fuerzas Armadas del Perú

Abstract

La dependencia funcional en el adulto mayor es la incapacidad y dificultad el cual obliga a la persona a pedir ayuda a otra para que pueda realizar sus actividades cotidianas. Antecedentes: La fisioterapia es fundamental en el adulto mayor para evitar que llegue a una dependencia funcional, el Índice de Barthel valora la función física del adulto mayor y en el manejo paliativo, el cual mide el grado de dependencia del paciente de acuerdo como realice las ABVD. Objetivo: Determinar el grado de dependencia funcional en pacientes geriátricos atendidos en consultorio externo de un hospital de las Fuerzas Armadas del Perú. Material y Métodos: Es un estudio observacional descriptivo de tipo transversal, incluyo a 306 pacientes geriátricos atendidos en consultorio externo del Hospital Central de la Fuerza Aérea del Perú, cumpliendo con los criterios de inclusión. El instrumento utilizado fue el Índice de Barthel, además de un cuestionario elaborado por las investigadoras. Resultados: Las mujeres presentaron un menor porcentaje de personas con independencia en su funcionalidad (6.28%). Al aplicar el Índice de Barthel se evidenció que la en su mayoría las personas obtuvieron grado de dependencia moderada (50.33%). Conclusión: El 88.56 % de pacientes geriátricos atendidos ambulatoriamente tuvieron algún grado de dependencia funcional. Esta dependencia funcional fue mayor en mujeres y a medida que avanzaba la edad.

Functional dependence in the elderly is the disability and difficulty which forces the person to ask for help from another so that they can carry out their daily activities. Background: Physiotherapy is essential in the elderly to prevent them from reaching a functional dependence, the Barthel Index assesses the physical function of the elderly and in palliative management, which measures the degree of dependence of the patient according to how he performs the ABVD. Objective: To determine the degree of functional dependence in geriatric patients treated in an outpatient clinic of a hospital of the Armed Forces of Peru. Material and Methods: It is a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study, including 306 geriatric patients seen in an outpatient clinic of the Central Hospital of the Peruvian Air Force, meeting the inclusion criteria. The instrument used was the Barthel Index, in addition to a questionnaire prepared by the researchers. Results: Women presented a lower percentage of people with independence in their functionality (6.28%). When applying the Barthel Index it was evidenced that the majority of the people obtained a moderate degree of dependence (50.33%). Conclusion: 88.56% of geriatric patients attended outpatiently had some degree of functional dependence. This functional dependence was greater in women and as age advanced.
