| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | Aim: To determine the impact of surgical treatment of peri-implantitis on patient-reported outcomes (PROs), as well as the frequency of its reporting in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Materials and Methods: A systematic search was conducted following PRISMA guidelines in PUBMED/MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and clinical trial registries. This was complemented by manual searches. RCTs reporting PROs were included and classified into reconstructive, resective, and access flap interventions. Risk of bias was assessed using RoB2 and certainty of evidence using GRADE. Narrative synthesis Without Meta-analysis (SWiM) was performed due to the inability to conduct a meta-analysis. Results: Fourteen RCTs (532 patients) were included. Only 15.5% of RCTs reported PROs. Resective and reconstructive therapies were associated with higher early postoperative morbidity and increased analgesic consumption. Intraoperative pain, quality of life, and satisfaction (aesthetic, treatment-specific, and overall) were high and comparable across interventions at medium and long-term follow-up. Risk of bias was low. Certainty of evidence was low for early outcomes and moderate for long-term outcomes. Conclusions: Although the inclusion of PROs was limited, more invasive surgical treatments were associated with greater early pain and analgesic use compared to less invasive approaches; however, no differences were observed in long-term satisfaction or quality of life. | eng |
