Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine which are the most frequent signs to evaluate the relationship of the mandibular third molars (TMI) and the inferior dental canal (CDI) in digital panoramic radiographs (RPD). Material and Methods: a retrospective, cross sectional, observational and descriptive investigation was carried out, analyzing digital panoramic radiographs of male and female patients who were between the ages of 18 and over, who attended the Radiology Service of the Central Military Hospital Lima - Peru, during the years 2018-2022. A data base was created with the images that met the selection criteria. The sample size was 3,136 digital panoramic radiographs, in which 2,600 corresponding to the left side (piece 38) and 2,620 corresponding to the right side (piece 48) were evaluated, making a total of 5,220 third molars. Then the radiographic signs were observed according to the Robert Langlais Classification; as well as the position of the third molar according to Pell and Gregory, establishing the frequency of these signs. Results: Of 5,220 TMI analyzed in the RPD, it was found that 2,690 presented proximity to the CDI; the radiographic sign of "dark band" occurred more frequently in the age range of 18 to 29 years with 773 (45.13%), in the male sex with 805(46.97%) and on the left side (piece 38) with 665 (49.04%). Conclusions: of the total RPD analyzed, the largest number presented proximity of the TMI to the CDI, with the radiographic sign of "dark band" being the one that occurred most frequently.eng
