Características epidemiológicas de casos de Leishmaniosis registrados en el portal del Centro Nacional de Epidemiología, Prevención y Control de Enfermedades (CDC- PERÚ) durante el período 2010 - 2019

Abstract

El objetivo de este estudio, fue describir el comportamiento epidemiológico y la distribución espacial y temporal de los casos confirmados de leishmaniasis, reportados por el Centro Nacional de Epidemiología, Prevención y Control de Enfermedades (CDC-PERÚ) entre el periodo 2010 al 2019. Las variables consideradas en el estudio fueron: región, año de ocurrencia, grupo etario, sexo y semana epidemiológica (SE) expresada en cuartiles. Se recolectó información de 738 casos confirmados de leishmaniasis humana. Se encontró leishmaniosis cutánea (LC), en el 81% (598/738) de los casos y leishmaniosis mucocutánea (LMC) en el 19% (140/738) restante. No se reportaron casos de leishmaniosis visceral. Entre los años 2017 (26.6%, 196/738) y 2018 (26.3%, 194/738) los casos de infección se intensificaron, y Loreto fue la región con mayor cifra de infectados (56.9%, 420/738). Además, el porcentaje de pacientes mujeres (32.5%, 240/738) fue superado por el porcentaje de pacientes hombres (67.5%, 498/738). Asimismo, los adultos entre las edades de 30-59 años (31%, 229/738) y 18-29 años (25%, 185/738) fueron los más reportados superando el cincuenta por ciento. El cuarto cuartil entre la SE 40-52 (29.8%, 222/738) y el primer cuartil entre la SE 1-13 (29.5%, 218/738) presentaron la mayor cantidad de casos. Se concluye que es necesario desarrollar medidas preventivas, especialmente de las localidades con mayor frecuencia de casos de la enfermedad a fin de evitar la diseminación de la leishmaniasis humana en el país.

The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological behavior and the spatial and temporal distribution of confirmed cases of leishmaniasis, reported by the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC-PERU) between the period 2010 to 2019. Variables considered in the study were: region, year of occurrence, age group, sex and epidemiological week (SE) expressed in quartiles. Information was collected on 738 confirmed cases of human leishmaniasis. Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) was found in 81% (598/738) of cases and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (CML) in the remaining 19% (140/738). No cases of visceral leishmaniasis were reported. Between the years 2017 (26.6%, 196/738) and 2018 (26.3%, 194/738) the cases of infection intensified, and Loreto was the region with the highest number of infected (56.9%, 420/738). Furthermore, the percentage of female patients (32.5%, 240/738) was surpassed by the percentage of male patients (67.5%, 498/738). Likewise, adults between the ages of 30-59 years (31%, 229/738) and 18-29 years (25%, 185/738) were the most reported, exceeding fifty percent. The fourth quartile between EW 40-52 (29.8%, 222/738) and the first quartile between EW 1-13 (29.5%, 218/738) presented the highest number of cases. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop preventive measures, especially in the localities with the highest frequency of cases of the disease, in order to avoid the spread of human leishmaniasis in the country.
