Resumen
Abstract: This article presents the endorsement by the World Sleep Society (WSS) of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) clinical practice guideline for diagnostic testing in adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The document reviews the applicability of the guideline across different global healthcare systems and emphasizes the importance of comprehensive clinical evaluation and objective sleep testing for accurate OSA diagnosis. The WSS supports the use of polysomnography and technically adequate home sleep apnea testing, while highlighting the need for medical supervision and caution when using limited-channel diagnostic tools. The endorsement also addresses considerations for regions with limited access to sleep laboratories and discusses recommendations for repeat testing and patient-specific diagnostic approaches. Overall, the article reinforces standardized, evidence-based diagnostic practices for adult OSA while acknowledging variations in healthcare resources worldwide.
