Se diseñó un estudio observacional, descriptivo– transversal, para evaluar las actitudes hacia el adulto mayor de 154 profesionales docentes de ciencias de la salud de una universidad privada, durante el periodo mayo - junio 2021, a través de una ficha sociodemográfica, la Escala Empatía Médica de Jefferson–vHP y la Escala de Actitudes hacia el Adulto Mayor de Kogan; para ello, se realizó un análisis bivariado para comparar las características sociodemográficas, nivel de empatía y la actitud. La muestra estuvo conformada por médicos, enfermeras, odontólogos y psicólogos. Encontrándose como resultado que, la edad promedio de los participantes fue de 47.02 ± 10.93 años, también que, el 51.30% presentó una actitud positiva; además que, ninguna de las características sociodemográficas evaluadas mostró significancia estadística, y sólo el nivel de empatía se relacionó con la actitud (p<0.05). Por lo que, se concluye que los docentes evaluados muestran una actitud positiva hacia el adulto mayor y que nivel de empatía se relaciona proporcionalmente con una mejor actitud hacia el adulto mayor.An observational, descriptive-cross-sectional study was designed to evaluate attitudes towards the elderly in 154 health sciences teachers at a private university, during the period May - June 2021, through a sociodemographic record, the Medical Empathy Scale. Jefferson-vHP and Kogan's Scale of Attitudes towards the Elderly; to do this, a bivariate analysis was performed to compare sociodemographic characteristics, level of empathy and attitude. The sample was made up of doctors, nurses, dentists and psychologists. Finding as a result that, the average age of the participants was 47.02 ± 10.93 years, also that, 51.30% presented a positive attitude; furthermore that, none of the sociodemographic characteristics evaluated showed statistical significance, and only the level of empathy was related to attitude (p<0.05). Therefore, it is concluded that the teachers evaluated show a positive attitude towards the elderly and that the level of empathy is proportionally related to a better attitude towards the elderly.
