Antecedentes: Los médicos forman parte de la primera línea de defensa contra la COVID-19, enfermedad que puede provocar un síndrome respiratorio agudo y que ha resultado en una pandemia desde el año 2020. Un conocimiento adecuado sobre esta enfermedad en el personal de salud es fundamental para una buena práctica diaria y capacidad de autocuidado. Objetivos: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento del personal médico del departamento de cirugía de un hospital nivel III-1 y posibles factores relacionados a este. Materiales y métodos: Se aplicó una encuesta, previamente validada, del 1 al 8 de julio del 2022. Se creó una base de datos en Microsoft Excel 2016 que fue procesada en STATA 16 teniendo en cuenta un p<0.05 como valor significativo. Resultados: Respondieron 99 participantes, 73.7% fueron menores de 40 años, 82.8% varones y 63.6% médicos residentes. El 79.8% obtuvo una calificación alta de conocimientos. Se encontró una asociación de la edad igual o mayor a 40 años con mayor nivel de conocimientos (p=0.016). Las respuestas con más porcentaje de error fueron sobre la mortalidad (37.4%), el tiempo de incubación (59.6%) y la actitud frente a una clínica leve (47.5%). Conclusiones: El personal médico del departamento de cirugía del hospital nivel III-1 evaluado posee en su mayoría un nivel alto de conocimientos sobre la COVID-19; sin embargo, es necesario intervenir en ciertas áreas que requieren mayor actualización, para así ayudar a prevenir la tasa de contagios a este grupo poblacional.
Background: Physicians are part of the first line of defense against COVID-19, a disease that can cause acute respiratory syndrome and has been a pandemic since 2020. Adequate knowledge about this disease is essential for good daily practice and self-care ability. Objectives: To determine the level of knowledge of the medical staff of the surgery department of a level III-1 hospital and possible factors associated with it. Materials and methods: A previously validated survey was carried out from July 1st to 8th, 2022. A database was created in Microsoft Excel 2016 that was processed in STATA 16, taking into account p <0.05 as a significant value. Results: There were 99 participants, 73.7% were under 40 years old, 82.8% were male and 63.6% were medical residents. 79.8% obtained a high knowledge rating. An association of age equal to or greater than 40 years with a higher level of knowledge was found (p=0.016). The responses with the highest percentage of error were about mortality (37.4%), incubation time (59.6%) and the attitude towards mild symptoms (47.5%). Conclusions: The medical staff of the surgery department of the level III-1 hospital evaluated, has in its majority a high level of knowledge about COVID-19; however, it is necessary to intervene in certain areas that require further updating, in order to help prevent the rate of contagion in this population group.
