El sistema endocrino regula el crecimiento, el metabolismo, el aprovechamiento de alimentos, entre otros. Las alteraciones del sistema endocrino se conocen como trastorno endocrino o endocrinopatía. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar las características clínicas y demográficas de los pacientes caninos con diagnóstico de enfermedad endocrina atendidos en la Clínica Veterinaria Docente Cayetano Heredia durante el periodo 2012-2018. Para ello se revisó todas historias clínicas del periodo estipulado y se incluyó las historias que tenían diagnóstico definitivo e información demográfica completa y legible. Se recolecto información de variables demográficas, signos clínicos, peso, motivo de consulta, resultado de pruebas diagnósticas complementarias, tratamiento y diagnóstico definitivo. La información se resumió mediante estadística descriptiva. Se revisaron 16,440 historias clínicas, dentro de las cuales se hallaron a 35 pacientes con diagnóstico definitivo de enfermedad endocrina: 25 con Diabetes Mellitus (71.4%), cinco con Hipotiroidismo (14.3%), tres con Hipoadrenocorticismo (8.6%), uno con Hiperadrenocorticismo (2.9%) y un paciente con dos enfermedades concomitantes (Hipoadrenocorticismo e Hipotiroidismo) (2.9%). Dentro de los pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus el 80 % fueron hembras, 56% de raza mestiza, 64% del distrito de lima norte y edad promedio de 8.64 años, siendo el sexo y la edad significativamente influyentes en la presentación de casos. Los signos clínicos que predominaron en los pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus fueron polidipsia (80%), poliuria (80%), polifagia (32%), y perdida ponderal (72%). No hubo alteración hematológica en la serie roja, pero si en la seria blanca (54.2%). En glucosa sérica se tuvo una media de 364.04 mg/dL, 96 % presento glucosuria y 56% cetonuria. Los resultados obtenidos serán útiles como base para futuros estudios en el área de endocrinología, así como para la exploración de nuevos estudios en 3 cuanto a la relación de los hallazgos hematológicos en pacientes con endocrinopatías y su posible diagnóstico previo a una complicación mayor del cuadro.The endocrine system regulates growth, metabolism, food use, among others. The objective of the study was to determine the clinical and demographic characteristics of canine patients diagnosed with endocrine disease treated at the Cayetano Heredia Teaching Veterinary Clinic during the period 2012-2018. For this, all medical records of the stipulated period were reviewed and the records that had a definitive diagnosis and complete and legible demographic information were included. Information was collected on demographic variables, clinical signs, weight, reason for consultation, results of complementary diagnostic tests, treatment, and definitive diagnosis. The information was summarized using descriptive statistics. 16,440 medical records were reviewed, among which 35 patients with a definitive diagnosis of endocrine disease were found: 25 with Diabetes Mellitus (71.4%), five with Hypothyroidism (14.3%), three with Hypoadrenocorticism (8.6%), one with Hyperadrenocorticism (2.9%) and a patient with two concomitant diseases (Hypoadrenocorticism and Hypothyroidism) (2.9%). Among the patients with Diabetes Mellitus, 80% were female, 56% mixed race, 64% from the northern Lima district, and an average age of 8.64 years, with sex and age being significantly influential in the presentation of cases. The clinical signs that prevailed in patients with Diabetes Mellitus were polydipsia (80%), polyuria (80%), polyphagia (32%), and weight loss (72%). There was no hematological alteration in the red series, but there was in the white series (54.2%). Serum glucose had an average of 364.04 mg/dL, 96% presented glycosuria and 56% ketonuria. The results obtained will be useful as a basis for future studies in the area of endocrinology, as well as for exploring new studies regarding the relationship between hematological findings in patients with endocrinopathies and their possible diagnosis prior to a major complication of the condition.
