dc.description.abstract | Background: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is increasing worldwide, due to its necessary early detection of undiagnosed DT2 patients, and to identify individuals at risk for developing T2D by a practical risk-scoring questionnaire using tools that permit early detection, especially who have more risk, one of that tool is FINDRISC. Objective: To describe the main risk factors for developing T2D at the Central Air Force Hospital in Military populations in Lima-Perú using the Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC). Methods: This is an observational, transversal and descriptive study, of military personnel who come to annual evaluation, all subjects (age ≥18 years) without known diabetes, were included. Individuals with more than≥ 13 points in the FINDRISC score were selected to perform an Oral Glucose Tolerance (OGTT), as a proof of gold standard for diagnoses T2D. Results: Out of 615 participants that were suitable for the study, 113 subjects with the FINDRISC ≥13 scores or higher were further examined with an OGTT, the percentage of screen-detected T2D was 27%, the prevalence of isolated IGF was 44%, isolated IGT 5% and IFG and IGT combined were 17%. Conclusion: The Findrisc score is a useful instrument of complement to the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test in the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in high-risk patients. | en_US |
