dc.description.abstract	Antecedentes: La fragilidad es una de las principales líneas de investigación en geriatría. Estudios recientes sugieren una asociación entre fragilidad y fibrilación auricular. Sin embargo, hay poca evidencia proveniente de países de ingresos bajos a medios. Objetivo: El presente estudio tiene por objetivo determinar la frecuencia de los estados de fragilidad y otros síndrome geriátricos en pacientes ambulatorios de edad avanzada con fibrilación auricular (FA) que reciben atención por consultorio externo en un hospital de Lima, Perú. Materiales y métodos: En el presente estudio, de corte transversal, se evaluaron un total de 200 pacientes (edad media 74,76 ± 8,42 años, 41% mujeres) mayores de 60 años con diagnóstico confirmado de fibrilación auricular que acudieron a sus controles periódicos en consulta externa. La fragilidad se evaluó con la escala FRAIL, el deterioro cognitivo se evaluó con el Cuestionario Breve Portátil del Estado Mental de Pfeiffer y la dependencia funcional se midió con el índice de Barthel. Se obtuvieron datos adicionales a través de entrevistas personales y de las historias clínicas de los participantes. Para el análisis de datos se utilizó el paquete estadístico R Studio versión 4.3.1. Se consideró un valor de p< 0.05 como estadísticamente significativo. Resultados: La prevalencia de fragilidad y prefragilidad fue del 28.5% y 46.5%, respectivamente. Los pacientes más frágiles eran de mayor edad (p<0,01), de sexo femenino (p=0,01) y no instruidos (p<0,01). Además, tendían a padecer insuficiencia cardíaca (p<0,01), síndrome de caídas (p<0,05), deterioro cognitivo (p<0,01) y dependencia funcional (p<0,01). No se encontró asociación estadística entre el estado de fragilidad y la polifarmacia o tipo de anticoagulación. Conclusiones: Existe una elevada prevalencia de fragilidad y pre fragilidad en adultos mayores con el diagnóstico de fibrilación auricular que acuden a consultorio externo de hospital general en Lima-Perú.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Background: Frailty is one of the current trending research topics related to geriatrics. Recent studies suggest an association between frailty and atrial fibrillation. However, there is scarce evidence from low-to-middle income countries. Aim: We aimed to assess frailty and other geriatric measures in elderly outpatients with atrial fibrillation in a general hospital of Lima, Perú. Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated a total of 200 patients (mean age 74.76 ± 8.42 years, 41% females) above 60 years with a confirmed diagnosis of atrial fibrillation who underwent regular check-ups at the outpatient service. Frailty was assessed using the FRAIL scale, cognitive impairment was evaluated with Pfeiffer’s Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ), and functional dependency was measured using the Barthel Index. Additional data were obtained through personal interviews and from the clinical records. Statistical analysis was conducted using R Studio version 4.3.1. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: Frailty and prefrailty were observed in 28.5% and 46.5% of participants, respectively. Frailer patients were found to be older (p<0.01), more likely to be female (p=0.01) and to have a higher frequency of illiteracy (p<0.01). Moreover, they exhibited a higher frequency of heart failure (p<0.01), falls (p<0.05), cognitive impairment (p<0.01), and impaired functionality (p<0.01). No statistical association was found between frailty status and polypharmacy or anticoagulation type. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty among older adults diagnosed with atrial fibrillation who attend the outpatient clinic at a general hospital in Lima, Peru.	es_ES
