Antecedentes: El tratamiento antirretroviral de gran actividad (TARGA) ha mejorado la expectativa de vida de los pacientes con infección por el VIH/SIDA, sin embargo, no se tiene información sobre su actividad en el riesgo de desarrollar cánceres no definitorios de SIDA, tal como el cáncer de pulmón. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación del tratamiento antirretroviral de gran actividad y el desarrollo de cáncer de pulmón en pacientes con infección por el VIH/SIDA. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática y meta análisis de estudios tipo cohortes con una búsqueda avanzada en las bases de datos de MEDLINE (Pubmed y Ovid), EMBASE y Cochrane. La data recolectada se analizó con el software Rayyan. La revisión se realizó de manera independiente por cada tesista. Resultados: Cuatro estudios compararon el riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de pulmón entre el uso y no de TARGA, mientras que ocho artículos lo compararon por eras (era pre-TARGA y era TARGA). Debido a la alta heterogeneidad entre estudios, los resultados cuantitativos no son concluyentes. Discusión: Según la interpretación cualitativa, el riesgo de cáncer de pulmón en pacientes con infección por el VIH/SIDA divididos por eras es incierto. Mientras que dividido por el uso de TARGA ha demostrado no aumentar el riesgo de cáncer de pulmón. Conclusión: No hay evidencia de una asociación entre el TARGA y el riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de pulmón en la población con infección por el VIH/SIDA.
Background: Highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART) has improved the life expectancy of patients with HIV/AIDS infection, however, there is no information on its activity on the risk of developing non-AIDS-defining cancers, such as lung cancer. Objective: Determine the association of highly active antiretroviral treatment with the risk of developing lung cancer in patients with HIV/AIDS infection. Materials and methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies was carried out with an advanced search in the MEDLINE (Pubmed and Ovid), EMBASE and Cochrane databases. The collected data was analyzed with Rayyan software. The review was carried out independently by each thesis student. Results: Four studies compared the risk of developing lung cancer between using and not using HAART, while eight articles compared it by era (pre-HAART era and HAART era). Due to the high heterogeneity between studies, the quantitative results are not conclusive. Discussion: According to our qualitative interpretation, the risk of lung cancer in patients with HIV/AIDS infection divided by era is uncertain. While divided by the use of HAART has been shown not to increase the risk of lung cancer. Conclusion: There is no evidence of an association between HAART and the risk of developing lung cancer in the population with HIV/AIDS infection.
