The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics and the spatial and temporal distribution of cases of human leptospirosis presented in Peru during the period 2009-2018 and which are registered in the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention and Control of Diseases of the Ministry of Health. For this, a descriptive study was carried out with variables: Age, Sex, Region and Date in which confirmed cases of leptospirosis were reported. The information obtained through the Portal Virtual Health Situation, CDC - Peru, was summarized in an Excel database using descriptive statistics. The year 2015 had a greater number of confirmed cases of leptospirosis. The department of Madre de Dios and Loreto registered the highest number of infected people. There was no significant difference between both genders. The age group with the highest number of cases was obtained by patients aged 30 to 59 years. The 40 to 52/53 week interval registered the highest number of confirmed cases of leptospirosis. It is concluded that it is necessary to reinforce the surveillance and prevention plans against this disease towards the population and in turn, determine what type of serovar affects the population, in order to have a better record of the disease.El objetivo de este estudio fue de describir las características epidemiológicas y la distribución espacial y temporal de los casos de leptospirosis humana presentados en el Perú durante el periodo 2009-2018 y que se encuentran registrados en el Centro Nacional de Epidemiología, Prevención y Control de Enfermedades del Ministerio de Salud (CDC-Perú). Para ello se realizó un estudio descriptivo teniendo como variables: edad, sexo, región y la fecha de notificación de caso confirmado de leptospirosis. La información obtenida a través del portal Sala Virtual de Situación de Salud, CDC - Perú, fue resumida en una base de datos de Excel mediante estadística descriptiva. El año 2015 tuvo mayor número de casos confirmados de leptospirosis. El departamento de Madre de Dios y Loreto registraron mayor número de personas infectadas. No hubo diferencia significativa entre ambos sexos. El grupo etario con mayor número de casos se presentaron en pacientes de 30 a 59 años. El intervalo de semana 40 a 52/53 registró mayor número de casos confirmados de leptospirosis. Se concluye que es necesario reforzar los planes de vigilancia y prevención contra esta enfermedad hacia la población y a su vez, determinar qué tipo de serovar afecta a la población, para tener un mejor registro de la enfermedad.
