Antecedentes: La cavidad ósea de Stafne es una variante anatómica poco frecuente, radiolúcida bien delimitada que usualmente se presenta en la región molar de la mandíbula cerca del ángulo mandibular y por debajo del canal para el nervio dentario inferior y puede ser erróneamente diagnosticada con otras entidades quísticas, tumorales, malformaciones y displasias. Objetivo: Determinar la frecuencia de la cavidad ósea de Stafne halladas en las radiografías panorámicas del Servicio de Radiología Oral y Maxilofacial del Centro Dental Docente Cayetano Heredia desde 2015 hasta 2019. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo de una base de datos con 17875 radiografías panorámicas. Se consideraron variables demográficas como sexo, edad, localización y forma posteriormente se realizaron tablas de contenido para el análisis de los resultados. Resultados: Presentó un 0.13% (n=24) de casos de cavidad Stafne, el sexo masculino representó el 66.67% (n=16) mientras que el femenino 33.33% (n=8). La 8va década presentó la mayor cantidad de casos con 0.4% (n=6) y la 10ma década presentó mayor predisposición con 0.75%. La localización posterior derecha representó el 54.17% (n=17), la posterior izquierda el 29.17% (n=7) y la anterior el 16.67% (n=4) sin casos localizados en la rama mandibular. La forma oval presentó 95.83% (n=23) y la redonda 4.17% (n=1). Conclusiones: La frecuencia de la cavidad ósea de Stafne fue de 0.13% con predilección del sexo masculino, grupo etario decima década de vida, localización posterior derecha y forma ovalada.Background: Stafne's bone cavity is a rare, well-defined, radiolucent anatomical variant that usually occurs in the molar region of the mandible near the mandibular angle and below the canal for the inferior dental nerve and it can be misdiagnosed with other entities as cystic lesion, tumor, malformations and dysplasias. Objective: To determine the frequency of Stafne's bone cavity found in panoramic radiographs of patients treated at the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Service of the Cayetano Heredia Teaching Dental Center from January 2015 to December 2019. Material and methods: A observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study of a database with 17,875 panoramic radiographs. Demographic variables such as sex, age, location and shape were considered. Tables of contents were made for analysis of the results. Results: It presented 0.13% (n=24) of cases of Stafne cavity, the male sex represented 66.67% (n=16) while the female 33.33% (n=8). The 8th decade presented the highest number of cases with 0.4% (n = 6) and the 10th decade presented the greatest predisposition with 0.75%. The right posterior location represented 54.17% (n = 17), the left posterior location 29.17% (n = 7), the anterior location 16.67% (n = 4) and there were no cases located in the mandibular branch. The oval shape presented 95.83% (n = 23) and the round 4.17% (n = 1). Conclusions: The frequency of Stafne's bone cavity was 0.13% with a predilection of the male sex, age group 10th decade of life, right posterior location and oval shape.
