Insatisfacción con la imagen corporal y autoestima en adolescentes

Abstract

Este estudio tiene como objetivo general recopilar estudios teóricos y empíricos sobre la relación entre insatisfacción con la imagen corporal y autoestima en adolescentes, y específicos: Analizar los estudios teóricos y empíricos sobre insatisfacción con la imagen corporal en adolescentes, así como analizar los estudios teóricos y empíricos de autoestima en adolescentes e identificar los instrumentos psicométricos más usados. Este grupo, considerado como uno de los más vulnerables, tiende a obsesionarse con su imagen física y basar su autoestima en ello, por lo que es necesario indagar al respecto. Como resultados, se encontraron 9 investigaciones que corroboran la relación de ambas variables y que también están relacionadas con otras como sexo, edad y entorno sociocultural. En cuanto a la Insatisfacción corporal, aún existe alta prevalencia de niveles altos y moderados en adolescentes, mientras que, en autoestima, es más baja, pero aún existente. Se concluye que el BSQ y Escala de Rosenberg son los instrumentos más usados y priorizar factores como el índice de masa corporal, sexo e identidad étnica para fortalecer los estudios e intervenciones sobre estas problemáticas en adolescentes.

This study has the general objective of compiling theoretical and empirical studies on the relationship between body image dissatisfaction and self-esteem, and the specific objectives of analyzing theoretical and empirical studies on body image dissatisfaction in adolescents, as well as analyzing theoretical and empirical studies on self-esteem in adolescents, and identifying the most commonly used psychometric instruments. This group, considered one of the most vulnerable, tends to become obsessed with their physical appearance and base their self-esteem on it, making it necessary to investigate this issue further. As results, 9 investigations and articles were found that corroborate the relationship between both variables, which are also related to other factors such as sex, age, and sociocultural environment. Regarding body dissatisfaction, there is still a high prevalence of moderate to high levels among adolescents, while for self-esteem, the prevalence is lower but still present. It is concluded that BSQ (Body Shape Questionnaire) and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale are the most commonly used instruments, and that factors such as body mass index, sex, and ethnic identity should be prioritized to strengthen studies and interventions on these issues in adolescents.
