Conocimiento y actitudes preventivas sobre el virus del papiloma humano en estudiantes de una institución educativa de Lima, 2024

Abstract

El virus del papiloma humano es el microorganismo más común y contagioso de las infecciones de transmisión sexual. Junto al incremento de casos de cáncer cervicouterino, se ubica en el segundo lugar por cantidad de contagios de mujeres en el Perú. Actualmente, se vienen implementando medidas preventivas sobre la infección por el VPH siendo muy efectivas, sin embargo, existe un conocimiento insuficiente por parte de los adolescentes y las prácticas preventivas. Objetivo: determinar el nivel de conocimiento y las actitudes preventivas sobre el virus del papiloma humano en estudiantes de secundaria de una Institución Educativa en Lima, 2024. Material y método: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal. El tamaño de muestra se conformó con 124 estudiantes mujeres. La técnica consistió en la aplicación de un cuestionario validado, la primera parte mide los niveles de conocimientos sobre el VPH conformado por diez ítems. En la segunda parte se evaluó la actitud preventiva conformado por 6 ítems. Resultados: El nivel de conocimiento sobre el VPH que prevaleció fue el nivel bajo con el 68,5% y las actitudes preventivas que prevalecieron fueron las buenas con el 58,1%. Conclusiones: El nivel de conocimiento sobre el VPH en las estudiantes fue mayoritariamente bajo (68.5%), seguido por un nivel medio (31.5%), sin registrarse nivel alto de conocimiento. Asimismo, se encontró que las estudiantes presentaron actitudes preventivas buenas frente al VPH (58.1%). Por otro lado, el 39.5% mostró actitudes regulares, mientras que solo un 2.4% reflejó actitudes malas.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common and contagious microorganism among sexually transmitted infections. Alongside the increase in cervical cancer cases, it ranks second in terms of the number of infections among women in Peru. Currently, preventive measures against HPV infection are being implemented and have proven to be highly effective; however, there remains insufficient knowledge and preventive practices among adolescents.Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and preventive attitudes regarding human papillomavirus among high school students at an educational institution in Lima, 2024.Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 124 female students. The technique involved administering a validated questionnaire. The first part assessed levels of knowledge about HPV through ten items. The second part evaluated preventive attitudes, consisting of six items.Results: The prevailing level of knowledge about HPV was low, with 68.5%, while the most common preventive attitude was classified as good, at 58.1%.Conclusions: The level of knowledge about HPV among the students was predominantly low (68.5%), followed by a medium level (31.5%), with no cases showing a high level of knowledge. Likewise, students generally displayed good preventive attitudes toward HPV (58.1%). On the other hand, 39.5% showed average attitudes, while only 2.4% exhibited poor attitudes.
