Con el objetivo de conocer la relación entre las dimensiones de la personalidad y la depresión en estudiantes cusqueños de Psicología se evaluó a 153 sujetos de ambos sexos, del segundo al décimo ciclo con el Inventario de Personalidad de Eysenck, instrumento adaptado por Concha (1998) y el Inventario de Depresión de Beck, estandarizado por Nishida (1998) y García (2015) estableciéndose que existe correlación directa moderada entre la dimensión neuroticismo de la personalidad y la depresión, y una correlación inversa leve entre la dimensión extraversión y la depresión de los estudiantes. Además, y en función al sexo y al año de estudios la dimensión “Neuroticismo” y la depresión correlacionan directamente: varones 0.7089, mujeres 0.569, en tanto que, en primer año la correlación es de 0.6652, en segundo, 0.6530; en tercero, 0.5979; en cuarto, 0.4911 y; en quinto, 0.7000. Lo opuesto ocurre entre la dimensión “Extroversión” y la depresión, puesto que, en función al sexo, la misma resulta inversa u poco significativa: mujeres -0.313 y varones -0.433 observándose el mismo fenómeno en función al año de estudios, pero, solo en el primero (-0.522) y el quinto (-0.576) años, en tanto que, en el resto, las variables no se correlacionan. Estos resultados implican que debiera abordarse el neuroticismo como estrategia para prevenir la depresión sobre todo en carreras en la que la estabilidad es un requisito del perfil profesional.In order to know the relationship between the dimensions of personality and depression in psychology students from Cusco, 153 subjects of both genres were evaluated from the second to the tenth cycle of studies. The Eysenck Personality Inventory, an adapted instrument by Concha (1998) and the Beck Depression Inventory, standardized by Nishida (1998) and García (2015) were applied. A moderate direct consequence between the neuroticism dimension of personality and depression were found, and a slight inverse relationship between the extraversion dimension and depression. In addition, and depending on gender and year of studies, Neuroticism and depression are directly correlated: males 0.7089, females 0.569., while, in the first year the correlation is 0.6652, 0.6530 in the second, 0.5979 in the third, in the fourth 0.4911 and in the fifth year of study 0.7000. The opposite occurs between the "Extroversion" dimension and depression, since, depending on gender, where the correlation is inverse and not very significant: women -0.313 and men -0.433 observing the same phenomenon depending on the year of studies, but only in the first (-0.522) and the fifth (-0.576) year of study, while in the rest, the variables are not correlated. These results imply that neuroticism should be addressed as a strategy to prevent depression, especially in careers in which stability is a requirement of the professional profile.
