Antecedentes: Diversas escalas se utilizan como herramientas de detección de depresión en entornos clínicos e investigación epidemiológica, sin embargo, muchas de ellas presentan una gran cantidad de ítems y están validadas sólo de manera presencial. Objetivo: Validar en línea la versión corta de 4 ítems de la Escala de Psicopatología Depresiva (EPD-4), tomando como patrón de referencia la Escala de Depresión del Centro de Estudios Epidemiológicos (CES-D) por medio de una encuesta virtual. Materiales y métodos: Un total de 256 personas respondieron la encuesta virtual, la cual comprendía de preguntas sobre características sociodemográficas y antecedentes, la escala EPD-4 y la CES- D. Se evaluó la estructura de la EPD-4 y se contrastaron sus puntajes con el diagnóstico de depresión definida por un puntaje de la CES-D≥24. Resultados: Tomando como patrón de referencia a la CES-D, la EPD-4 tuvo un área bajo la curva ROC de 0,9243 (intervalo de confianza al 95%: 0,8899 a 0,9587) y el punto de corte óptimo fue 4 (índice de Youden: 0,7, sensibilidad: 82,19% y especificidad: 87,43%). La consistencia interna fue adecuada con un coeficiente Omega de McDonald de 0,8229; y un alfa de Cronbach de 0,8126. El ítem sobre anhedonia, fue el que más contribuyó a la medición de la EPD-4. Conclusión: La EPD-4 en línea presentó propiedades psicométricas adecuadas siendo válida para detectar depresión tomando como referencia la CES-D.
Background: Many scales are used as screening tools for depression in clinical settings and epidemiological research, however, many of them have a large number of items and are only validated in person. Objective: Online validation of the short version of 4 items of the Depressive Psychopathology Scale (DPS-4), taking as a reference pattern the Depression Scale of the Center for Epidemiological Studies (CES-D) through a virtual survey. Materials and methods: A total of 256 people answered the virtual survey, which included questions about sociodemographic characteristics and background, the DPS-4 scale and the CES-D. The structure of the DPS-4 was evaluated and its scores were contrasted with the diagnosis of depression defined by a CES-D score ≥24. Results: Taking the CES-D as the reference pattern, the DPS-4 had an area under the ROC curve of 0.9243 (95% confidence interval: 0.8899 to 0.9587) and the optimal cut-off point was 4 (Youden index: 0.7, sensitivity: 82.19% and specificity: 87.43%). Internal consistency was adequate with a McDonald's Omega coefficient of 0.8229; and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.8126. The item on anhedonia was the one that contributed the most to the measurement of the EPD-4. Conclusion: The online EPD-4 presented adequate psychometric properties, being valid to detect depression taking the CES-D as a reference.
