El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la influencia de la pandemia COVID-19 sobre la tenencia de canes y prácticas de vacunación antirrábica entre los pobladores de Lima Metropolitana y el Callao comparando los resultados de la Encuesta Nacional de Programas Presupuestales (ENAPRES) desarrollada por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI) entre los años 2017 y 2020. En el 2020 el porcentaje de tenencia de canes fue mayor (47.5%) que en otros años. Además, el porcentaje fue menor en Lima Centro en el 2017 (31.6%) y mayor en Lima Sur en el 2019 (54.4%) comparando los resultados de los años en estudio. El estrato socioeconómico (ESE) A tuvo porcentajes inferiores (32.5% a 38.9%) a comparación del ESE E (51.5% a 56.2%). La media de can por vivienda estaba entre 1.5 y 1.6. La proporción de encuestados que vacunan fue mayor en Lima Centro en el 2019 (95.3%) y en Lima Este fue menor en 2020 (80.7%). El ESE A y B obtuvo valores superiores (91 a 96%) y el ESE E valores inferiores (80.7 a 87.9%). La cobertura de vacunación antirrábica fue menor en Callao y Lima Este (76.9% a 88%) y mayor en Lima Centro (88.8% a 95.9%). El ESE A y B contó con mayor cobertura, ESE A en el 2017 y 2020 (95% y 90.7%) y ESE B en el 2018 y 2019 (94.8% y 94.8%). El ESE E contó con menor cobertura en el 2020 (77.5%). En el 2020, la cantidad de perros vacunados disminuyó al 86.5%, mientras que en años anteriores los valores eran superiores al 90.6%. La correlación de Spearman indicó que la relación entre ESE y tenencia de canes fue inversa (r = - 0.95), mientras que en la cobertura de vacunación la correlación fue directa (r = 0.813).The purpose of the study was to evaluate the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on dog ownership and rabies vaccination practice among the inhabitants of Lima Metropolitan area and Callao by comparing the results of the National Budget Program Survey (ENAPRES) developed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) between 2017 and 2020.
