Antecedentes: Son escasos las investigaciones que se han realizado sobre las estrategias de afrontamiento del paciente frente al diagnóstico de cáncer de mama. Objetivo: Describir las estrategias de afrontamiento frente al diagnóstico del cáncer de mama en mujeres del servicio de oncología del Hospital Cayetano Heredia (HCH) 2022. Material y método: Estudio de enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo de corte transversal. La población estuvo constituida por 42 mujeres con diagnóstico de cáncer de mama que asistían al servicio de oncología médica del HCH. Se consideró al total de la población femenina que cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Se utilizó como técnica la encuesta virtual mediante la aplicación del cuestionario de Brief Cope Inventory en versión español con una confiabilidad de 0,689 de alfa de Cronbach; se aplicó previo consentimiento informado. Teniendo en cuenta los principios bioéticos. Resultados: De las 42 participantes la edad media fue de 54,9 (DS=12,1). De las cuales un 38,1% eran solteras, 23,8% convivientes, 19% casadas, 4,8% divorciadas y un 14,3% viudas. Se encontró que la media del tipo de afrontamiento activo fue de 35,98 (DS=5,75) donde su estrategia activa (Me:6,0) fue la más utilizada y el humor (Me:2,0) fue la menos empleada; mientras que la media del tipo de afrontamiento pasivo fue de 35,02 (DS=4,15) siendo la estrategia de religión (Me:8,0) la más utilizada y la menos utilizada el uso de sustancias (Me:2,0). Conclusión: las participantes no usan un solo tipo de afrontamiento, ellas emplean diversas estrategias tanto de afrontamiento activo como pasivo.Background: There is little research that has been carried out on the coping strategies of the patient when faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer. Objective: To describe the coping strategies against the diagnosis of breast cancer in women from the oncology service of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital (CHH) 2022. Material and method: Study with a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 42 women diagnosed with breast cancer who attended the HCH medical oncology service. It was found that the mean of the type of active coping was 35.98 (SD=5.75) where its active strategy (Me: 6.0) was the most used and humor (Me: 2.0) was the least. employee; while the mean of the type of passive coping was 35.02 (SD=4.15) being the most used strategy of religion (Me: 8.0) and the least used substance use (Me: 2.0). Conclusion: the participants do not use a single type of coping, they use various strategies, both active and passive coping.
