El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar la evolución de los puntos de contacto oclusales de 40 pacientes durante un año postratamiento ortodóncico. Se tomaron registros oclusales con silicona (por adición, Elite HD), y se cuantificaron las perforaciones como CR y las zonas translucidas como CC. Se evaluaron los puntos de contacto en cantidad en toda la arcada y por diente, según si producían tripoidismos, dos contactos o un contacto por diente posterior, y se compararon los grupos tratados con y sin exodoncias. Se observaron incrementos significativos a los tres y doce meses después del retiro de la aparatología fija, entre un promedio de 11 contactos al inicio y 18 contactos al final del periodo de evaluación. También se observó un incremento de dos y tres contactos (tripoidismos). Se observó un ligero incremento en el grupo tratado sin exodoncias y también se pudo observar una tendencia al asentamiento de la mordida postero-anterior; es decir, que los primeros tripoidismos ocurrían antes en los dientes más posteriores. Se concluyó que hay un incremento significativo de la cantidad de puntos de contacto oclusales durante un año post tratamiento ortodóncico de pacientes con maloclusión Clase I de Angle tratados con y sin exodoncias; evidenciando el asentamiento de la mordida post tratamiento ortodóncico el cual sigue un patrón que inicia en los dientes más posteriores y, el incremento más significativo y sostenido se produce en la primera molar permanente.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evolution of the occlusal contact points of 40 patients during one year after orthodontic treatment. Occlusal records were taken with silicone (to be increased, Elite HD), and the perforations were quantified as CR and the translucent areas as CC. Contact points were evaluated in quantity in the entire arch and per tooth, according to whether they produced tripoidisms, two contacts, or one contact per posterior tooth, and the groups treated with and without extractions were compared. Significant increases were observed at three and twelve months after bracket removal, between an average of 11 contacts at baseline and 18 contacts at the end of the evaluation period. An increase from two to three contacts (tripoidisms) was also demonstrated. A slight increase was demonstrated in the group treated without extractions and a tendency to settlement of the postero-anterior bite could also be observed; that is to say, that the first tripoidisms occurred earlier in the most posterior teeth. There is a significant increase in the number of occlusal contact points during one year after orthodontic treatment in patients with Angle Class I malocclusion treated with and without extractions; evidencing the settlement of the post orthodontic treatment bite which follows a pattern that begins in the most posterior teeth and, the most significant and sustained increase occurs in the first permanent molar.
