El objetivo del estudio fue describir la percepción de los pobladores sobre el bienestar animal en las corridas de toros en la ciudad de Huancavelica. Para ello se utilizó una encuesta que contó con 42 enunciados que presentaban respuestas en escala tipo likert y que estuvo dividido en cuatro componentes: 1: Conocimiento sobre bienestar animal, 2:Maltrato animal por placer, 3: Maltrato animal por desconocimiento y 4: Ley de Protección y Bienestar Animal. Se recopiló información de 197 personas (125 hombres y72 mujeres). Se encontró que la mayoría de los encuestados tiene conocimiento sobre el bienestar animal y muestran su rechazo a la tauromaquia. El 93.4% de los participantes se muestran a favor de que los animales no deben ser maltratados. El 57.9% considera que deberían prohibirse las corridas de toros en Huancavelica. El 28.4% asiste con frecuencia a las corridas de toros y el 25.9% la considera una actividad divertida. El 69%afirma que se vulneran los derechos de los toros de lidia durante las corridas y el 68%señala que el toro sufre cuando es atacado por el torero. Además, el 42.6% de los huancavelicanos no considera a las corridas de toros como parte de su cultura. El 40.6%de los participantes tiene conocimiento sobre la Ley Nro. 30407, Ley de Protección y Bienestar Animal y se muestran en contra de que los toros de lidia no sean incluidos endicha Ley. La información obtenida puede ser utilizada para reabrir el debate sobre la prohibición del uso de animales en este tipo de espectáculos con la finalidad de proteger su bienestar.The objective of the study was to describe the perception of residents about animal welfare in bullfighting in the city of Huancavelica. For this, a survey was used that had42 statements that presented responses on a Likert-type scale and that was divided into four components: 1: Knowledge about animal welfare, 2: Animal abuse for pleasure, 3:Animal abuse due to ignorance and 4: Law of Animal Protection and Welfare. Information was collected from 197 people (125 men and 72 women). It was found that the majority of respondents have knowledge about animal welfare and show the irrejection of bullfighting. 93.4% of the participants are in favor of the fact that animals should not be mistreated. 57.9% consider that bullfighting should be prohibited in Huancavelica. 28.4% frequently attend bullfights and 25.9% consider it a fun activity.69% affirm that the rights of fighting bulls are violated during bullfights and 68% indicate that the bull suffers when it is attacked by the bullfighter. Also, 42.6% of Huancavelicans do not consider bullfighting as part of their culture. 40.6% of the participants are aware of Law No. 30407, Animal Protection and Welfare Law, and are against fighting bulls not being included in said Law. The information obtained can be used to reopen the debate on the prohibition of the use of animals in this type of shows in order to protect their welfare.
