Antecedentes: A través de la intervención educativa, se puede fortalecer el conocimiento sobre la HTA mediante técnicas y estrategias educativas, puesto que una de las funciones de enfermería es trabajar y desarrollar acciones sobre el primer nivel de atención a la salud. Objetivo: Determinar la efectividad de una intervención educativa en el nivel de conocimiento de hipertensión arterial en personas adultas. Material y métodos: El tipo de estudio es pre experimental. La población estuvo conformada por una muestra de 309. Los métodos de recolección de datos fueron la entrevista y el instrumento “Cuestionario de conocimientos sobre la hipertensión”. El programa educativo “Conociendo la hipertensión arterial” elaborado en la presente investigación fue ejecutado con éxito en el centro de salud. Estuvo basado en la “Guía Técnica: Guía de Práctica Clínica para la Prevención y Control de la Enfermedad Hipertensiva en el Primer Nivel de Atención”. Para el análisis de datos se empleó estadística descriptiva para las variables categóricas mediante la aplicación de “frecuencia absoluta” y “porcentajes”. En la estadística inferencial se seleccionó la prueba no paramétrica de rangos de Wilcoxon. Resultados: En el pre test, el nivel de conocimiento sobre hipertensión arterial en personas adultas fue inadecuado con el 97.4% y adecuado con un 2.6%, así mismo en el post test, el nivel adecuado fue 95.8% y solo un 4.2% presento nivel inadecuado. Conclusiones: El estudio concluyó que la intervención educativa incrementó el nivel de conocimiento de hipertensión arterial en las personas.Background: Through educational intervention, knowledge about HTN can be strengthened through educational techniques and strategies, since one of the functions of Nursing is to work and develop actions on the first level of health care. Objective: Determine the effectiveness of an educational intervention on the level of knowledge of arterial hypertension in adult patients. Material and methods: The type of study is pre-experimental. The population was made up was 309. The data collection methods were the interview and the instrument “Knowledge Questionnaire about Hypertension”. In the analysis plan, the non-parametric Wilcoxon rank test was selected, so the type of statistics used was descriptive. The educational program “Knowing high blood pressure” developed in the present investigation was successfully implemented at the health center. It was based on the “Technical Guide: Clinical Practice Guide for the Prevention and Control of Hypertensive Disease in Primary Care”. Results: In the pre-test, the level of knowledge about arterial hypertension in adult patients was inadequate with 97.4% and adequate with 2.6%, likewise in the post-test, the adequate level was 95.8% and only 4.2% presented a level inappropriate. Conclusions: The study concluded that the educational intervention increased the level of knowledge of high blood pressure in the participants.
