dc.description.abstract	Introducción: La práctica adecuada de higiene oral constituye un factor clave en la prevención de la enfermedad periodontal, condición de naturaleza multifactorial en la que intervienen elementos como la placa bacteriana, los cambios hormonales y otros factores predisponentes que llevan al acúmulo y formación de biopelícula como son las restauraciones desbordantes, prótesis fijas mal adaptadas y la aparatología ortodóntica fija los cuales pueden ser autoligantes o convencionales Objetivo: El propósito del presente estudio es analizar las prácticas de higiene oral en una muestra de adolescentes de 15 a 19 años que reciben tratamiento ortodóntico fijo, población en la cual confluyen los tres factores mencionados. Materiales y métodos: Se empleará un diseño transversal y se aplicará un cuestionario basado en instrumentos previamente validados por Tadin et al. (2024) y Sbricoli et al, (2022). La población estará constituida por pacientes jóvenes entre los 15 y 19 años atendidos en el Centro Dental Docente Cayetano Heredia atendidos en el servicio de ortodoncia. Las variables serán: Prácticas de higiene oral, tiempo de tratamiento de ortodoncia, tipo de bracket, sexo y edad. Se usará la prueba de Chi-cuadrado al 95% IC. Conclusiones: El estudio busca evidenciar que las prácticas de higiene oral en adolescentes con ortodoncia fija son clave para prevenir complicaciones periodontales, fortalecer hábitos de autocuidado y orientar intervenciones educativas y políticas públicas en salud bucal.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Introduction: Adequate oral hygiene practice is a key factor in the prevention of periodontal disease, a multifactorial condition involving elements such as bacterial plaque, hormonal changes, and other predisposing factors that lead to the accumulation and formation of biofilm, such as overflowing restorations, poorly adapted fixed prostheses, and fixed orthodontic appliances, which can be self-ligating or conventional. Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze oral hygiene practices in a sample of adolescents aged 15 to 19 years receiving fixed orthodontic treatment, a population in which the three aforementioned factors converge. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional design will be used, and a questionnaire based on instruments previously validated by Tadin et al. (2024) and Sbricoli et al. (2022) will be applied. The population will consist of young patients between 15 and 19 years old who are seen at the Cayetano Heredia Teaching Dental Center and are treated in the orthodontic service. The variables will be oral hygiene practices, orthodontic treatment duration, bracket type, sex, and age. The Chi-square test with a 95% CI will be used. Conclusions: This study seeks to demonstrate that oral hygiene practices in adolescents with fixed orthodontics are key to preventing periodontal complications, strengthening self-care habits, and guiding educational interventions and public policies in oral health.	es_ES
