Introducción: La tuberculosis (TB) es un problema prioritario de salud pública en el Perú. La identificación de la transmisión por vía aérea por parte de la población general y el descarte de mitos acerca de la transmisión son claves para la prevención. A pesar de la existencia de 48 lenguas oficiales, el castellano es el idioma predominante, seguido del quechua como la lengua originaria de mayor alcance (1). La lengua materna podría asociarse con brechas de información para la prevención de la TB. Objetivos: Determinar la asociación entre lengua materna (castellano, quechua/aimara y otras lenguas indígenas) y el nivel de conocimiento sobre transmisión de TB, usando la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar, ajustando por variables sociodemográficas. Metodología: Estudio observacional, analítico y transversal con microdatos de la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar 2024. Se incluirán personas de 15 años a más. Se estimará la prevalencia ponderada de “conocer o hablar oído de una enfermedad llamada tuberculosis o TB” (2) y su asociación con la lengua materna. En quienes respondieron “sí”, se evaluará el conocimiento mediante el análisis individual de cada una de las cuatro preguntas sobre transmisión: se considerará correcto responder “sí” a tos/estornudo y hablar de cerca, y “no” a tocar y compartir alimentos/utensilios. El análisis incorporará el diseño muestral complejo mediante el uso de estratos, conglomerados y factores de ponderación. Se estimarán proporciones ponderadas con intervalos de confianza al 95%. Se aplicará la regresión de Poisson con varianza robusta, ajustando por sexo, edad, nivel educativo, seguro de salud, índice de riqueza, presencia de tos por más de 15 días, departamento de residencia y área de residencia urbano/rural. Se analizarán los datos en Stata v.17.0.
Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority public health problem in Peru. The identification of airborne transmission by the general population and the dispelling of myths regarding transmission routes are key for prevention. Despite the existence of 48 official languages, Spanish is the predominant language throughout the territory, followed by Quechua as the indigenous language with the widest reach (1). Mother tongue may be associated with information gaps regarding TB prevention. Objectives: To determine the association between mother tongue (Spanish, Quechua/Aymara, and other indigenous languages) and the level of knowledge about TB transmission, using the Demographic and Family Health Survey, adjusting for sociodemographic, economic, and contextual variables. Methods: An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study using microdata from the 2024 Demographic and Family Health Survey. Individuals aged 15 years and older will be included. The weighted prevalence of “knowing or having Heard of a disease called tuberculosis or TB” (2) and its association with mother tongue will be estimated. Among those who answered “yes,” knowledge will be evaluated through the individual analysis of each of the four transmission questions: responses of “yes” to coughing/sneezing and speaking closely, and “no” to touching and sharing food/utensils will be considered correct. Analyses will incorporate the complex sampling design through the use of strata, clusters, and weighting factors. Weighted proportions with 95% confidence intervals will be estimated. Poisson regression with robust variance will be applied, adjusting for sex, age, educational level, health insurance status, wealth index, department of residence, presence of cough lasting more than 15 days, and urban/rural area of residence. Data will be analyzed in Stata v.17.0
