El incremento de la frecuencia de enterobacterias productoras de β-lactamasas de espectro extendido (BLEE) representan una amenaza grave tanto para la práctica clínica veterinaria como para la salud pública. En este contexto, se sugiere que los perros son reservorios y potenciales transmisores de estos patógenos al humano. El objetivo de este estudio es determinar la presencia de Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. y Enterobacter spp. BLEE en perros sanos de la Clínica Veterinaria Docente Cayetano Heredia (San Martín de Porres, Lima). Muestras fecales de perros sanos (n=58) fueron sembradas en agar de cultivo cromogénico HiCrome™ ESBL. Las cepas aisladas fueron sometidas a pruebas bioquímicas y sembradas en agar McConkey. Posteriormente, la confirmación de cepas productoras de BLEE se realizó mediante la técnica de sinergia de doble disco (DDST) descrita por “El Comité Europeo sobre las Pruebas de Susceptibilidad Antimicrobiana” (EUCAST). La frecuencia de E. coli y Klebsiella spp. productoras de BLEE fue de 44.83% (n=26/58) y 6.89% (n=4/58), respectivamente; sin embargo, se descartó la presencia de Enterobacter spp. Adicionalmente, se halló asociación estadísticamente significativa entre las hembras y el estado de portador de E. coli y Klebsiella spp. productoras de BLEE (p=0.02).The increase in the frequency of Enterobacteriaceae producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) represents a serious threat to both veterinary clinical practice and public health. In this context, it is suggested that dogs are reservoirs and potencial transmitters of these pathogens to humans. The objective of this study is to determine the presence of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. and Enterobacter spp. in healthy dogs of the Cayetano Heredia Veterinary Teaching Clinic (San Martín de Porres, Lima). Faecal samples from healthy dogs (n=58) were seeded in HiCrome™ ESBL agar base. The isolated strains were subjected to biochemical tests and seeded on McConkey agar. Subsequently, confirmation of ESBL-producing strains was carried out using the Double Disc Synergy test (DDST) described by "The European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing" (EUCAST). The frequency of ESBL-producing E. coli and Klebsiella spp. was 44.83% (n=26/58) and 6.89% (n=4/58), respectively; however, presence of Enterobacter spp. was discarded. In addition, a statistically significant association was found between females and the carrier status of ESBL-producing E. coli and Klebsiella spp. (p=0.02).
