El objetivo de este estudio fue describir radiológicamente la anatomía ósea del mono araña (Ateles belzebuth) a partir de un registro de imágenes radiográficas pertenecientes al Centro de Rescate Isla de los Monos, tomadas en los meses de enero y febrero del 2019. Del registro radiográfico, se midieron los huesos que componen el esqueleto axial y apendicular de cuatro ejemplares de Ateles belzebuth a través de una aplicación para el procesamiento de imágenes médicas, llamada MicroDicom Dicom viewer y dichos resultados fueron resumidos en cuadros con las medias y desviación estándar de las mediciones. Los hallazgos demuestran que los brazos no tienen una mayor longitud que las piernas; dicho resultado es respaldado por el índice intermembral de este estudio. Se pudo observar que el número de vértebras puede variar dentro de esta especie. Con respecto a las manos, el primer dedo solo muestra la presencia del metacarpo con variaciones en su tamaño. En conclusión, si bien las características de los huesos estudiados guardan similitud con la literatura del mono araña y primates platirrinos; existen diferencias que requieren evaluaciones una vez que la maduración esquelética se complete en estos primates juveniles.The objective of this study was to describe radiologically the bone anatomy of the spider monkey (Ateles belzebuth) from a record of radiographic images belonging to the Monkey Island Rescue Center, taken in the months of January and February 2019. From the radiographic record, the bones that make up the axial and appendicular skeleton of four specimens of Ateles belzebuth were measured through an application for medical image processing, called MicroDicom Dicom viewer and these results were summarized in tables with the means and standard deviation of measurements. The findings show that the arms are not longer than the legs; this result is supported by the intermembral index of this study. It was observed that the number of vertebrae could vary within this species. Regarding the hands, the first finger only shows the presence of the metacarpus with variations in its size. In conclusion, although the characteristics of the bones studied are similar to the literature on the spider monkey and platyrrhini primates; there are differences that require evaluation once skeletal maturation is complete in these juvenile primates.
