La investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar la relación entre l a inteligencia emocional y estilos de afrontamiento al estrés en alumnos de un programa de becarios de una universidad privada de Lima Metropolitana. El nivel y tipo de investigación fue básica descriptiva y diseño correlacional. Los instrumentos emplead os fueron: Trait Meta Mood Scale 24 (TMMS 24) de Mayer y Salovey y Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) de Frydenberg y Lewis. Los instrumentos TMMS 24 (α: 0.899) y ACS (α: 0.904) cuentan con adecuada confiabilidad de consistencia interna y mediante los puntajes de V de Aiken se evidenció la validez de contenido. La población estuvo conformada por 87 becarios. Se concluyó que existe una correlación alta (r: 0.70) entre la inteligencia emocional y estilos de afrontamiento al estrés. Asimismo, se hallaron correlacio nes lineales entre las dimensiones de inteligencia emocional (atención emocional, claridad emocional y reparación emocional) y los estilos de afrontamiento al estrés (dirigido a resolver el problema, referencia a otros y no productivo), estas correlaciones fueron: indirecta muy baja, muy baja, baja, moderadas y altas. Finalmente, se especificaron datos descriptivos sobre las categorías del TMMS 24 y ACS en la población.The objective of the research was to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence and styles of coping with stress in students of a scholarship program at a private university in Metropolitan Lima. The level and type of researc h was basic descriptive and correlational design. The instruments used were: Trait Meta Mood Scale 24 (TMMS 24) by Mayer and Salovey and Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) by Frydenberg and Lewis. The TMMS 24 (α: 0.899) and ACS (α: 0.904) instruments have ade quate internal consistency reliability and the Aiken V scores evidenced content validity. The population consisted of 87 scholarship holders. It was concluded that there is a high correlation (r: 0.70) between emotional intelligence and styles of coping wi th stress. Likewise, linear correlations were found between the dimensions of emotional intelligence (emotional attention, emotional clarity and emotional repair) and stress coping styles (aimed at solving the problem, referring to others and not productiv e) these correlations were: indirect very low, very low, low, moderate and high. Finally, descriptive data on the TMMS 24 and ACS categories in the population were specified.
