Introducción: El fenotipo gingival es importante porque desempeña un papel clave en el éxito de los tratamientos odontológicos por su influencia en la estabilidad del margen gingival y por su posible implicancia en la salud periodontal. Objetivo: Evaluar la distribución de los fenotipos gingivales según parámetros clínicos periodontales en cadetes de la Escuela Militar de Chorrillos “Coronel Francisco Bolognesi”. Materiales y métodos: Es un estudio transversal - descriptivo. La muestra estuvo constituida por 271 cadetes de la Escuela Militar de Chorrillos “Coronel Francisco Bolognesi”. El procedimiento consistió en registrar el fenotipo gingival mediante la técnica de visibilidad de la sonda y relacionarlo con los diferentes parámetros clínicos. Se realizó un análisis bivariado utilizando la prueba de chi cuadrado para las variables cualitativas, para los datos paramétricos se utilizó la prueba de T Student y para los datos no paramétricos se utilizó la prueba U Mann Whitney. Resultados: Se revisó 1626 mediciones clínicas periodontales, obteniéndose 64.88% de FG grueso y 35.12% de FG delgado. No hubo asociación entre FG y sexo, PS y MG-UCE. En la asociación entre el FG y encía adherida/encía queratinizada no se encontró asociación solo en los incisivos centrales. Conclusiones: Se encontró mayor distribución de fenotipo gingival grueso en ambos sexos, también se halló asociación entre el fenotipo gingival y la encía queratinizada/ encía adherida en las piezas 13, 12, 22 y 23.Antecedents: The gingival phenotype is important because it plays a key role in the success of dental treatments due to its influence on the stability of the gingival margin and its possible implication in periodontal health. Objective: To evaluate the distribution of gingival phenotypes according to periodontal clinical parameters in cadets of the Military School of Chorrillos "Coronel Francisco Bolognesi". Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional – descrptive study. The sample consisted of 271 cadets of the Military School of Chorrillos "Coronel Francisco Bolognesi". The procedure consisted of recording the gingival phenotype using the probe visibility technique and relating it to different clinical parameters. A bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test for qualitative variables, the T Student test was used for parametric data and the Mann Whitney U test was used for non-parametric data. Results: A total of 1626 periodontal clinical measurements were recorded, obtaining 64.88% of gross FG and 35.12% of thin FG. There was no association between FG and sex, BP and MG-UCE. In the association between FG and adherent gingiva/keratinized gingiva, a negative association was found only in central incisors. Conclusions: A greater distribution of thick gingival phenotype was found in both sexes, also association between gingival phenotype and keratinized gingiva/attached gingiva was found in pieces 13, 12, 22 and 23.
