Introducción: La discrepancia transversal del maxilar superior es una condición común que se manifiesta como una desproporción en el ancho del maxilar en comparación con el ancho de la mandíbula, esta anomalía puede generar diversas complicaciones, como distintos grados de desarmonía en la oclusión, modificaciones en la posición de la lengua, disfunciones articulares y disminución de espacio en el arco dentario. Objetivo: Determinar tomográficamente la altura y el grosor cortical del hueso palatino con deficiencia transversal del maxilar atendidos en un centro dental docente en Lima-Perú, 2025. Materiales y métodos: El estudio será de tipo descriptivo, transversal y comparativo. La población estará constituida por tomografías computarizadas de haz cónico de pacientes con deficiencia transversal del maxilar. Las variables serán: Altura del hueso palatino, grosor cortical del hueso palatino, deficiencia transversal del maxilar. Se examinarán 12 regiones del hueso palatino, registrando en las fichas de recolección de datos las medidas correspondientes a la altura y el grosor cortical, con el fin de analizar posteriormente los resultados. Para el análisis univariado, se calcularon los valores cuantitativos de la altura y grosor cortical del hueso palatino (media, desviación estándar y varianza) en pacientes con deficiencia transversal del maxilar, de acuerdo con el tamaño muestral. A fin de verificar si las observaciones presentaban una distribución normal, se aplicó la prueba de Shapiro-Wilk (p>0.05). Para el análisis bivariado, se empleó la prueba ANOVA. Resultados: Los resultados de este estudio son de gran relevancia, ya que aportan información importante sobre las áreas potenciales de inserción de dispositivos de anclaje esquelético en el hueso palatino, con el fin de garantizar su estabilidad dentro del tejido óseo. Conclusiones: Este estudio resalta la importancia de evaluar la altura y grosor cortical del hueso palatino para determinar posibles zonas de inserción de dispositivos de anclaje esquelético, así como sus dimensiones.Introduction: The transverse discrepancy of the maxilla is a common condition that manifests as a disproportion between the width of the maxilla and the width of the mandible. This anomaly may generate various complications for the patient, such as different degrees of occlusal disharmony, alterations in tongue position, joint dysfunctions, changes in muscular activity, and reduced space in the dental arch for proper tooth alignment. Objective: To determine tomographically the height and cortical thickness of the palatal bone in patients with transverse maxillary deficiency treated at a dental teaching center in Lima, Peru, 2025. Materials and Methods: The study will be descriptive, cross-sectional, and comparative in design. The population will consist of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of patients with transverse maxillary deficiency. The variables will include palatal bone height, palatal bone cortical thickness, and transverse maxillary deficiency. Twelve regions of the palatal bone will be examined, recording the measurements of height and cortical thickness in data collection forms for subsequent analysis. For the univariate analysis, quantitative values of palatal bone height and cortical thickness (mean, standard deviation, and variance) will be calculated in patients with transverse maxillary deficiency, according to the sample size. To assess whether the observations followed a normal distribution, the Shapiro-Wilk test was applied (p>0.05). For the bivariate analysis, the ANOVA test was used. Results: The findings of this study are highly relevant, as they provide important information regarding potential areas for the insertion of skeletal anchorage devices in the palatal bone, ensuring their stability within the osseous tissue. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of evaluating palatal bone height and cortical thickness in order to determine potential insertion sites for skeletal anchorage devices, as well as their dimensions.
